Hi, my name is Callum and I'm 16 years old. I live in South Wales and for about a year now I have become really interested in politics. I agree with the ideals of communism where everybody works together to benefit everybody collectively. And I have a great hate for anything far right. I've been trying to join my local communist party, but I haven't heard back from them in a while. Should I re-send my E-mail? And I'm starting to feel very guilty and angry about they way society and I live. I get jealous and can be greedy sometimes, wanting more than I need. And everyone around me do the exact same without feeling caring and none of them take a caring into politics which is annoying because they seem to care more about celebrity gossip etc instead of the important things.

From a recent post at another thread:

I really don't know what to make of all this. I reminds me of some science fiction project set in an alternate universe where the regular laws don't apply.

It's either this or by default we'd be soap-opera-type junkies to the endless dramatic intrigues of the bourgeois owning class.

Who is gonna do all the work?

I was like that when I was about 13-14. It was basically misanthropy and elitism under a 'socialist' cover. There's no need to feel guilty about society, or not desire a comfortable lifestyle.

Hello and welcome.

I understand why you would feel that way. This about sums up how I've often felt about most people's attitude toward suffering caused by capitalism (not just in other countries but in the neighbourhoods where they live, because both matter):

Most people you'd talk to about this likely aren't going to respond well. Just try to remember that there are a lot of things which either make it difficult to change the system or distract people's attention (it's not just the far right who will blame the wrong things or people when life gets tough). Also remember, though, that communism isn't a lifestyle. Of all the things that stand in the way of getting rid of capitalism, you enjoying your life isn't one of them. I agree that celebrity gossip deserves contempt, but I'm sure you aren't alone in that opinion and it's better to approach with good humor.

As for your local communist party, I don't really know anything about them. Different parties calling themselves communist will disagree about different things. So someone else might be more able to advise you about that.

There's nothing wrong with that. It's the bourgeoisie fucking up people's lives, not the average person buying products. Entertainment is a human need too. Communism is not about limiting people. Optimally everyone would be able to fulfill his desires to the maximum degree.

You may want to join the SPGB.
