HOW THE FUCK ARE THEY GETTING AWAY WITH THIS SHIT???

its like the people ruling actually hate humans - well played, satan!

They either hate humans or they don't see homeless people as humans. It's actually pretty sad. There were tests done that showed that the parts of peoples' brains that activate when they perceive an object also activates when they look at a homeless person. So most people don't even see them as humans, which is beyond fucked up.

It baffles me how people go on about the glories of capitalism when there are people who have no fucking homes!

This is the kind of stuff that made me realise that you can't change a capitalist/conservative's mind by appealing to morals or even expecting them to be able to empathise with those less fortunate.
It's the kind of shit that makes me unable to become friends or even respect them as much as I try to keep politics out of certain areas of life. To me it's incompatible to be a decent human being and be that selfish.

What the fuck? its just getting more and more of this kind of shit everywhere.. They used 100 BILLION on brazil world cup and raided the favelas in order to "keep things safe" for the bourgeoisie mindfuck fest while people are literally dying by the frikkin' millions because the government "cant afford" social services!

the psychiatric industry and police are turning into psychopath breeding ground, i havent heard one independent song on the radio for fucking years..... i think since about the time MTV turned into a beverly hills travel commercial. and people are fucking disappearing....!

is anyone else seeing something veeery concerning developing here.....? its getting dark out there.....................

Absolutely fucking disgusting. A great reason to smash the state and butcher the rulers and their lackeys for their crimes. Also I'm pretty sure Satan would be kinder than this Mindsword. The world under capitalism is a very dark place. People shouldn't be forced into being homeless, and people shouldn't intentionally be kept homeless. Hatred of the poor is so widespread and its just absolutely depressing. I know people in my area who would support this wholeheartedly, as well as people who say that the homeless deserve this, and some that insist the poor should succumb to a worse fate.

Its kinda like that quote by nixon."When the President does it, that means it is not illegal."
In this case it's "When the government does it is not illegal."

Just to correct the thread title, Southwark is run by a Labour council. It is in no way a Tory area.

I was also point out that the council has denied responsibility for the spikes.

Which is frankly even weirder...who the hell is doing it?

The OP called it tony not Tory.

Housing owners do this in order to keep their property value up.

I think its a typo though.

It is not weird at all. The owners of the building have placed the studs on what is almost certainly their own property. The council is now looking at the planning permission regulations, which effect private property to see if they can have them removed.

The OP called it tony not Tory.

are you being facetious or are you stupid? it's clear what the op meant, and it wasn't "tony" but "tory", which is - as has been pointed out - completely wrong as this is a labour controlled borough, a constituency represented by a labour mp, etc.

what's a "tony" area out of interest?

the government didnt though it though. do you think the british government would just choose a block of flats in south london to put a few spikes outside?

Yeah, this isn't a party-political issue, although it shows we live in a society where property is valued above human beings. It also tells us something more immediate: that the numbers of homeless people is increasing in the UK at an unprecedented pace. A number of businesses (Tesco, for instance) and private homes are having similar contraptions installed because they are reacting to the more visible presence of the homeless.

Btw, I'm getting fed up that the mods don't amend these typo-inflicted thread titles. It makes us look like amateurs

Tony actually means posh. It has nothing to do with Tory or Labour....in fact...it has very little to do with politics. It is lingo.

Duhuh....

It isn't a type-o.

My ultimate wisdom on this matter however is not, unfortunately, extensive knowledge on the English ligo. Since it is in the article title and since nobody here knew if it were a type error I googled it. Apparently it is derived from tone...as in high-tone. As in posh.

;)

My mistake then. I have just searched for it, and you are right. It is an American usage though, and is certainly one I have never heard before, nor judging from some of the other comments on here, have some English people.

Me neither. I thought it was a type o too. Then I noticed the header in the article had the same word.

Its not just London. Parts of Glasgow have them also. Never realised their purpose until Friday when the story appeared on the net. What is happening in this country is shocking time people started fighting back.

Not that I'm advocating direct action or anything (you know, because that's illegal, and you should totally obey the law and never, ever do anything to disobey the state), but here's an article (http://theaccidentalacnarchist.wordpress.com/2014/06/08/spikes-for-the-homeless/) on fixing the spikes.

Also, it isn't that posh an area of London. It says Southwark Bridge Road, and I would presume it is somewhere towards the river end, but one end of Southwark Bridge Road is Elephant and Castle. It is certainly no not Mayfair*.

Devrim

*To people who aren't familiar with London Mayfair is the top one on an English Monopoly set, the American 'Broadwalk' whereas the nearest one to this place is Old Kent Road, the American Mediterranean Avenue.

A lot of people I know have suggested covering the spikes with pallets or mattesses. Let's see how long they can be bothered with removing them night after night...

Activists poured concrete over a Tesco's anti-homeless spikes earlier this morning.
