Are there any good resources about the workers' movement in Italy pre-WW1 and then up to the Biennio Rosso period? I'd like to learn more about the period. What are your opinions about how things developed and what were the key players and factors during this time?

Cheers in advance. :)

Sorry, I saw you're from the UK and I just assumed y'know the education system well. Well in AS history which is the first year of A-level AQA did a part on this when covering totalitarianism. And I was implying did you find out about it from the course, sorry.

Don't apologise, comrade, I was uncertain what you meant but on reflection I had thought you might have meant AS Levels (I'm 23 so it's been a few years since school :) ). It's interesting that they mention it at all, actually. I'm guessing that they mention it as a build up to the black shirts and Mussolini?

Just going to bump this for justice. No-one's read anything decent regarding this period? No-one's got any links to online sources?

For a basic introduction to the subject in English you could try Gywn Williams' Proletarian Order: Antonio Gramsci, Factory Councils and the Origins of Communism in Italy, 1911-21, pdf available here (http://bookos-z1.org/book/818954/a294ff).
