I am off school for a very long time, while I am teaching myself Mandarin and reading and studying my own subjects I just want to know some really good anti-capitalist films. Not always history films about Soviet Union but just films which change your perception of the world, like V for vendetta or gattaca.

I really, really enjoyed the film Reds (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reds_%28film%29).

Welt am Draht by Fassbinder, look for English subs. It's some Matrix shit from the 70s, cool as hell.

'Die Fetten Jahre Sind Vorbei', also known as 'The Edukators", also "Goodbye Lenin" if you want a good laugh.

Edit: Aris Chatzistefanou's documentaries. He's made several about the effects of the financial crisis on Greece and recently made one about how big business collaborates with fascism.

Dennis the 'Bloody Peasant'

'Land and Freedom' - Spanish Civil War setting, British communist goes to Spain to fight for the republic. Excellent scene where villagers and militiamen discuss whether or not to collectivise land and what priorities should be (defeat Franco or advance the revolution).

I suggest Che (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Che_%282008_film%29), The Motorcycle Diaries (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Motorcycle_Diaries_%28film%29), and Comandante (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comandante). Looking for Fidel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Looking_for_Fidel) is good, though it shows Oliver Stone's liberalism. Metropolis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metropolis_%281927_film%29), Man with a Movie Camera (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man_with_a_Movie_Camera), Battleship Potemkin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battleship_Potemkin), and Strike (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strike_%281925_film%29), are all good films. The last three being Soviet films too. But if you don't like silent movies, then you might not want to bother with those ones. The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Black_Power_Mixtape_1967-1975) is good as well.

I'm sure that there are more, but I can't remember all of them off hand right now. I also didn't wanna give any suggestions that other people have already given here either.

Black Power Mixtape is a pretty good one. Interesting look at that particular era.

The Thing (1982), Even the Rain (2010), Cradle Will Rock (1999), Children of Men (2006), Flame in the Streets (1961), The Man From Earth (2007), Libertarias (1997).

I tried to include a few that weren't so explicitly political but I'd definitely recommend some of the other films folks have recommended (Black Power Mixtapes, Can Dialectics Break Bricks, House I Live In, Rome: Open City, are all brilliant films). :)

There's also this really good movie about a conscript who returns to everyday life in the USSR of the 50s/60s. He enrolls in school and begins to settle down but his life feels empty. It's light hearted but also quite critical at the same time. I can't remember the name atm but if someone knows its name please remind me. Else I will post it when I recall it.

Voces Inocentes-(Innocent Voices) great film about the Salvadoran civil war.
Stalingrad-okay film about Soviet soldiers and a nazi soldier.
