If I'm up to it, I read or write something. Other than that, play a game, listen to music, maybe get a snack, or browse mindlessly. There's not a damn good thing I've seen on TV lately, though.
Yeah, I'm pretty much nocturnal these days so I've learned a ton of ways to pass time.
I guess you're asking for advice on falling asleep, but honestly I just try to do something interesting or fun if not productive. Better to make use of that time than to stare at the ceiling...

I continue to lay there because if I get up I will get cold eventually even in the summer. Or cops will wonder what I'm doing and try to chat

It's 4am here and I've sort of been up all night (I was reading my Kindle in bed for a couple of hours and sort of had a half-sleep), so I'm a little tired but should be fine. I'm setting off for work at 6.30am, so I'm just going to have some breakfast and coffee soon.

I find that if I stay up all night, I shiver if I go outside in the morning even if it's warm.

I have problems sleeping too although lately I've been too exhausted from work to do anything but pass out immediately.

I like to surf the web at night since I'm pretty busy with work and family during the day.But then I don't get enough sleep and that makes me all tired in the daytime.

I usually say 'Well, I probably won't get to sleep tonight, so I may as well do productive things'. Problem is you get so goddamn tired that you can't concentrate on anything, and you just end up lying on your back for hours.
I think the trick is to never try and go to bed when you aren't sleepy. If you aren't sleepy, then stay up til 3 or 4 playing videogames or doing productive things or whatever. After that, you will be tired, so you either (a. fall asleep, or (b. only have to lie on your back for like 4-5 hours instead of 8.
Luckily, I'm not in school anymore, and don't have any pressure to wake up early, so most of my 'sleep anxiety' has gone away. For the odd sleepless night, I have herbal insomnia pills. Their utter shite, but I'm dumb enough to use them as a placebo and it often works.
