Sun Yat-sen is pretty much the only historical figure revered by both the PRC and Taiwan. To the Taiwanese he's "The Father of the Nation". To the PRC, he's "the forerunner of democratic revolution".

Sun Yat-sen also had a fan in Lenin. Both men openly congratulated each other on their accomplishments, with Lenin praising Sun Yat-sen and the KMT for their principles and attempts to change Chinese society for the better, whilst Sun Yat-sen called Lenin a 'great man' and congratulated him on the success of the Russian Revolution.

And, of course, Sun Yat-sen allied himself with the CPC and received significant help from the Comintern during the revolution.

But Yat-sen seems very much to have been a bourgeoisie nationalist revolutionary, and his apparent ambivalence to the May Fourth Movement seems to solidify this view.

So, what is everyone's opinion on him?
