I saw that on the shelf in a bookstore last week. It looked good, but I decided on Dreaming War: Blood for Oil and the Cheney-Bush Junta by Gore Vidal. Although I disagree with Vidal's idea that we need to return to the governmental structure of the Articles of the Confederacy (ie the predecessor to the United States Constitution), I definately think his assessment and analysis of 9/11 warrants merit. I guess I'll have to pick up Chomsky's latest as well.

They're going have to pay the cost of this reactionary stateism where you have a huge state and you cut taxes for the wealthy. And there's a cost to that. And the population doesn't like it, so you've got to get their mind off it, have to frighten them, you have to make them think that some demon's coming after them, so you have to huddle underneath the powerful leader who will protect you. --Chomsky

I can't say that I disagree, but I couldn't help but muse a bit at the Orwellian nature of this statement.

Ive read quite a fair amount of Chomsky and i am left wondering why you guys like and respect him so much. He has denounced Marxism and State Socialism just as much as Keynesism and Capitalism. In fact, he has had a stab at every single political alternative left, right, autho and lib. It has left me wondering what are Chomskys political persuassions? Surely he must have a foundation to launch all these attacks from, i mean, surely he cant be so shallow as to avoid opinionated debate by meerley splurting principled rhetoric, can he? In my opinion, yes thats all he does.

You're wrong!!!!! Chomsky has said that he will never give up on Marx although he dislikes Stalinism and Leninism intensely. I know because I read it myself. It was on a discussion he had with someone about Anarchism. I forgot exactly where it was. Read for yourself.

Why not? Nothing should be exempt from criticism.
