do you think this video where a racist parodies racism helps or not?

No. And this one isn't even the worst.
It could possibly make some people realise how stupid they are. But then again people stupid enough to be racist might think they're laughing with this video rather than being laughed at.

I think it's just stupid. And some people who're actually racist might be even too dumb to get that this is a parody. (Not referring to "THIS IS 'MURICAAAA"-guys at all *cough*)

No, I don't think it "helps", whether the person is well-intentioned or not (and I don't think Ari Shaffir is remotely well-intentioned here, making folks who actually deal with racism deal with more racism 'as a joke'). It's basically having your cake and eating it too for people too disingenuous to admit to being racist.

I shut it off after he said the word holocaust in air-quotes. Hipster racism is still racism, and people only use the guise of irony to justify saying horrible things. They may think it's satire, but in only perpetuates that line of thinking.

Ari Shaffir is a legend, an awesome comedian and the founder of the find the edible scavenger hunt.
As for the whining about his holocaust jokes, Ari's Mother and Father were in concentration camps and most of his relatives were killed in the holocaust. So please just stop acting like he is trying to defame jews.
If you pretend his stuff is not funny you are purposefully trying to be offended for lefty brownie points.

Also, while stereotypes are often just that, his asian driving bit is hillarious because of the sad state of driving in most asian countries, some like china being near suicidal.

And the state of driving in China has what to do with Americans of Asian descent?
I am watching the video in the OP. It's pretty fucking racist and not funny in the least.

Everything because this is a comedy video about an ignorant white person using stereotypes of asians in general, if he made correct statements there would be no humour in it. Please just understand basic concepts.
How is it not funny? It is clearly funny and Ari is clearly hillarious, otherwise he would not be a headlining comic who sells out chows and has one of the number 1 comedy podcast numbers on itunes.
He pokes fun at the jews, he is jewish and half his family were killed by the nazi's, he makes fun of black people, asians, muslims, christians and pretty much everyone.
It is supposed to be racist, thats the joke, those videos are of the amazing racist for god sake. They make jokes about stereotypes. Are you really that miserable and without humour?

Or, ya know... maybe you don't find it funny and think it's offensive?
So while someone might choose to get outraged and offended at it -From; "Sexism dismissed as 'just a joke'"
Do you seriously believe that no one really finds these kinds of jokes offensive, and that anyone who claims to be offended by racist/sexist/etc jokes are just choosing to be?

Okay, just watched the first couple of minutes of the video in the OP. I get the intentions behind the video, but it just made me cringe more than anything. I didn't think it was funny. I think that satirising racism (or any other form of oppression) has to be done in particular ways to make it funny - so an example of a good satire of racism would be those videos where an Asian American turns the racist stuff white people say back on them, because that is far more effective at drawing attention to it than having a white guy pretend to be ignorant.
Also, it's interesting to see Patrice O'Neal pop up in every thread about oppressive "comedy" essentially telling us we should get a sense of humour. Just because this guy is a well-known comic, doesn't mean that his jokes are above criticism. We should criticise jokes, and examine why people think certain things are funny, why it's apparently okay to make jokes that favour the privileged. I don't think any topic should be out of bounds for comedy, but that really does depend on how the topic is approached. A good joke about racism makes fun of racist people or institutions and turns stereotypes on their head, rather than reinforcing them.

It isn't supposed to be satarising racism though, thats the thing. It isn't calling out racism in society. It is a jewish comedian saying ridiculous over the top things to make people laugh. It is not and does not have to be doing it "the right way" to please lefties, which most regular people would find boring as shit.
Also, most of the people in the videos are other comedians or Ari's friends, He didn't become a driving instructor then racially abuse two random asian people.
Alnd yes, Father ted is epic. The perfectly square bit of dirt on the window might be the fiunniest thing ever.

No it isn't, no comedians apart from a few crap political ones like stewart lee think like this. Hence why he has no following and only appeals to a very small liberal uni crowd.
You are saying comedy should reflect my personal politics or it isn't good, which of course is nonsense and almost cultish in its mindset.
Stop saying a joke should do this or that when you are not a comedian. A good joke is one that makes people laugh, more people find humor like Ari's and Frankie boyle's and Doug Stanhope's amazing than those who find a few awful political comedians who only tell joes that poke fun at white people and only tell racial jokes in a context that calls out a racist, amazing.
You are not forced to listen to a rape joke or the amazing racist, if you don't like it you really don't have to.

A but of course only jokes that make fun of the oppressed and reinforce stereotypes are funny. Making fun of privilege and oppressors is not funny, just ask the real comedians(tm).
Please don't ask yourself the question why people find racist jokes funny and why they reinforce racism, else it might ruin the fun.
Preserving true comedy at all cost, even if it means throwing our POC and female and LGBT comrades under the bus. What a great motto to live by.

Another strawman, who said only jokes that make fun of the "oppressed" (which is any worker under capitalism despite what identity politics are being put forth in this thread) are funy?
Infact it is you saying only jokes that make fun of opressors is funny, which is just obviously not true.
How are white men of the working class who become comedians oppressors?
And yes comedy should be left alone even if a white person, a person of colour or a woman is offended. The same as anti war jokes offend pro war people or an athiest takig the piss out of Islam offends some muslims. Does not mean jokes about the war or god should now be off the table.
You have the right to be offended, not the right not to be.

I'm sure Patrice would agree that the majority of people in a given western society have barbaric views regarding race, gender, sexual orientation, etc. Why then would we be surprised that those same people would not find humor which questions or attacks those views to be funny or entertaining? Of course they will instead to drawn to humor which reinforces their own warped views, this is not a revelation. The question is why this person, Patrice, feels the need to come here and defend this state of affairs to us.

You have the right to be offended, not the right not to be.
I told you that our opposition to racist jokes is not about them being offensive butt that they reinforce racism. You still keep ignoring this point or brush it off as inrelevant.

I was saying only a few awful comedians think only jokes that make fun of the oppressor are funny, not that there are no funny jokes that make fun of the oppressor.
I disagree with you yes. Can you accept people have different opinions and thus your stance is just an opinion, not fact?

Hey, don't group scatological jokes with those things. There's a difference between immature and ideology-infused.
@O'neal: I didn't find Carlin's rape jokes funny. He's overrated by lefties tbh, and it kind of looks bad how you keep championing racist and sexist jokes, almost defensively, like you're unwilling to examine why you really laugh at them.

So eveyone who likes different comedy to you needs to view things the same as you or they are racists who just won't examine why they are laughing at them?
I laugh because they are funny, I am a class stuggle anarchist yet I can watch the sopranos and root for characters I would be at total odds with in real life. I have this incredible ability called being able to seperate comedy and drama with real life.
I just think you are unwilling to examine why you pretend not to like jokes because of specific subjects they contain. Why is that?

I liked Amazin Racist's video when he dressed as KKK and went to black district and when he took those Mexican guys for work and he drove them to Immigration center, reactions were funny, but other than that, I find his other videos childish and moronic.
