I was studying different versions of Marxism, which included Maoism, and a few articles I read mentioned "Orthodox Maoism", but the authors never described what it is. If someone knows what Orthodox Maoism is, that would be great.

I'd assume it's something that can only be practised by early 20th century Chinese peasants, their feet caked in mud, their rifle on their back, and their backs aching after marching a thousand miles and more. But that's just me.

There is a tendency on here called "Orthodox Maoism", and it seems to be made up of Maoists who reject the Three Worlds Theory (which I should think would be a majority these days anyway)

No Marxist Leninist Maoist upholds the PRC
To answer the OPs question briefly though admittedly inadequately, we'd have to disregard the Maoism vs Orthodox Maoism since neither tendencies exist. The terms in use within the international communist movement for the actual divide are Marxism-Leninism Mao Zedong Thought and Marxism-Leninism-Maoism. ML-MZT was the mantle that was taken by various Anti-Revisionist parties after the sino soviet split which largely was more of a symbolic indicator that they did not heed the line of Moscow rather a point of radical departure from Marxism-Leninism. Marxism-Leninism-Maoism was the term coined in Peru by the Peruvian Communist Party which upheld the universality of protracted peoples war, the theory of the labor aristocracy, the proletarian feminist currents developing in India and Nepal, abstentationism, and numerous other contributions within the revolutionary communism movement to argue that Mao Zedong thought had become a qualitative leap in Marxism. This stance was adopted in the 1993 declaration of the revolutionary internationalist movement and by several parties throughout the world. The remainder which chose to refer to themselves under Marxism-Leninism Mao Zedong Thought generally hold a crypto hoxhaist defense of Stalin such as NCP (Mashal) while refuting the necessity of armed struggle and participating in the parliaments of bourgeois states.
