like community made cooperative (online) video games that are owned/maintained by the community that are worth playing? or whats the closest you get

I have 3 words: Twitch Plays Pokemon. It's both direct and representative democracy at times. :lol:

Well Minecraft could be considered cooperative and collaborative, if you play with others. It's not maintained by the community, but users can create custom maps and mods.

The closest thing I'm aware of is Valve Corporation, best known for half life. Formally it has no hierarchy, informally apparently some people still have more influence:

League of Legends is somewhat driven by the community. You get the game free but through donation you keep the game running, because it runs on the companys server. But in return then you are also assured that the company will listen to its community base. (Unless you live in western europe <-- joke rofl)
