A black woman was going to give a speech at Rutgers university and these 2 white males think they can silence a proud powerful woman.

The first is Distinguished Professor Franois Cornilliat (http://french.rutgers.edu/faculty-members/445-cornilliat-francois). The Frenchman says that his research mainly focuses on the evolving role of poetry and poetics in the rhetorical culture of the Renaissance.

The other professor who led the protests against Rice, the first black woman in history to represent American foreign policy to the world, is Distinguished Professor Rudolph M. Bell (http://history.rutgers.edu/faculty-directory/96-bell-rudolph-m). Bell is a history professor, who writes I work in all aspects of Italian history but with particular attention to religion, gender, popular culture, mysticism, and the history of the book.

They have no issue when white men come to speak at their college but they don't want a powerful woman to speak freely. These people should get fired!

I think in protest Rice University should close their French Studies department and rename it Liberty Study department.

Here is some background:

A few weeks later, petitions objecting to Rice's selection began circulating around campus. Then, the Rutgers faculty council on the New Brunswick campus filed the first formal objection to Rice's selection when they passed a resolution calling on the school to rescind her invitation. The professors said Rice had contributed to misleading the public about the presence of weapons of mass destruction in the run-up to the Iraq War and condoned the Bush Administration's use of waterboarding and other enhanced interrogation techniques of prisoners.

"An honorary doctor of laws degree should not honor someone who participated in a political effort to circumvent the law," the faculty resolution said.

Other faculty and student groups debated or passed similar statements as protests about Rice's speech began to grown louder.

Sorry Takayuki; I know you had high hopes for this thread but the prospects are looking pretty dismal in the context of this post.

eh. no.

Rice is not attacked for being a woman. Rice is being attacked for criminal behavior...for her support of imperial and illegal war and for her part in defending illegal incarceration and torture. And that in the context of a legal doctorate. The fact that she is a woman has very little to do with it. Unless of course you have different evidence.

Womyn should defend each other in solidarity but not necessarily in all cases. We don't need men doing it for us.
