Apparently, Fidel Castro's Cuba and Francisco Franco's Spain maintained covert relations throughout the Cold War and Spain even sent ships to Cuba to break the American blockade.
In fact, when Francisco Franco died in November 1975, Castro declared three days of mourning for the man who killed upwards of 200,000 - 300,000 Communists during his 36 year regime.
It is things like these that make me doubt Fidel Castro and his commitment to Socialism. Even today, Castro's Cuba is in bed with the reactionary Iranian Islamists.
What are your thoughts about this and was Castro simply Communist out of convenience to gain Soviet bloc military aid and economic aid in order to gain allies for his rabid anti-Americanism fueled by being a closet fascist sympathizer or was he genuinely dedicated to the Socialist cause?
P.S.: When Fidel Castro was younger, he used to read the works of Spanish Falangist and fascist Jose Primo de Rivera.
