Didn't know where to put this, didn't want to put it in ongoing struggles because that makes it look like I support the Taliban. This is all over the news in the UK so I thought I'd post it.

Am I meant to be sad? Does this make me a horrible human being?

No and no.

I don't really see what relevance a technical failure on a helicopter has to Leftist politics, except to argue that the war in Afghanistan is something that soldiers should oppose for endangering their lives and that British citizens should oppose for wasting their resources on a military effort to prop up a never-ending occupation.

taliban claimed responsibility but the brits are denying it. part of me wonders if this is because they're getting out soon and don't want it to look like the place is as much as or even more fucked than it ever was

While I feel sorry for the soldiers' families, it is difficult for me to feel bad about soldiers from imperialist countries being killed in combat. When you join the military in a place like the U.S. or the U.K., you know perfectly well what your job is going to entail these days: invading and occupying other countries in order to enrich your corporate masters. If you choose to enlist anyway, I feel little sympathy for you when you get injured or killed. Don't want to get blown up in Afghanistan? Then don't join the military. Pretty simple. Perhaps many will think that's a harsh way to look at it, but to me, if you truly wanted to serve your country, the last thing you'd want to do is join the military, considering the sole purpose of any military is death and destruction.
