Hello, i didn't notice a forum about fracking, so i decided to start one. Currently, i am writing a 7-10 page research paper on the subject and the more I research the subject, the more it sickens me. Groundwater contamination, earthquakes, and cancer causing chemicals released into the environment. Also, most of the wells used by the big oil and gas companies leak massive amounts of methane, which is 15-20 times worse for the environment than carbon-dioxide.This is only the tip of the iceberg. This is something that needs to be stopped. I will post the paper when it is finished. Post your own thoughts on tracking and the issue.

Yeah, fracking is even worse than regular oil. And yet somehow so many bourgeois liberals envision (or at least pretend to envision) it as a "gateway to clean energy". Such nonsense.

The process of tracking is used to obtain natural gas and oil as well, but yes. Natural gas obtained through fracking is just as bad or worse than petroleum obtained by using conventional methods. Anyone who says tracking is a gateway to clean energy is either delusional or greatly stands to profit from fracking and they want people to believe that it is safe or it is a gateway.

I'm sure someone here can tell you more.

Liberal 2: I have a solution... let's burn some other fossil fuels from the ground!

Yeah, there's a lot of uproar about fracking from where I live. It's pretty awesome, but also pretty absurd. People have signs in their windows saying 'Keep your fracking hands off' and I'm just thinking sarcastically "Jeeze, I didn't know they did fracking downtown in a city of half a million people".

But yeah, I know very little about it. Doesn't the method involve blasting high concentrations of water into the ground so they can access 'different' but more plentiful supplies of oil? Honestly, I have no idea what the terminology I'm supposed to be using is. If somebody could fill in the blanks, that would be great

I know. whenever i go to the gym and am running the treadmill, and they always have can and fox on and for the 30 min i run, i see at least two to three pro Fracking commercials. Any yes, fracking does invoke using high pressured water mixed with sand and other chemicals in order to crack the shale rock and to keep the frack open.

Yes, fracking is when oil and gas drillers inject highly pressurized water, mixed with sand and chemicals, into shale layers of the earths crust in order to access oil and gas supplies that where previously unattainable. After they create the fractures in the rock, which are generally millimeters wide, they then insert tubes and begin to extract the gas or oil. To frack one well can take millions of gallons of water.

Anyone who believes fracking is better that regular oil drilling is either out of their minds or has been completely brainwashed. Forgetting the environmental damage caused by fracking for a second (which is pretty hard to do considering the practice literally causes man-made earthquakes), the impact on human health alone is terrifying. There are known carcinogens in fracking fluid being pumped into groundwater across the country, every day, and no one with half a brain should be surprised when cancer rates in communities near fracking sites sharply increase over the next decade. Al Jazeera is doing a great job of reporting on the dangers of fracking, and anyone interested in learning more about the issue should check out what they've written.

The chemicals also cause birth defects if a pregnant woman drinks the contaminated water.

"Fracking" is also notorious for causing the water from your faucet to catch on fire from all the methane, pollutants and all kinds of crap that seeps into the groundwater. You turn on the tap and put the flame from a Bic lighter under the faucet and suddenly, your sink, curtains, dishes and whatever else is set ablaze.
