Hi all. There are some laws in some states that for example [50%] of [politicians] in a [parliament] must be [female]. Of course the words within brackets can be changed, this is only an example.
Please discuss about what you think about these laws, about whether you think it leads to more or less discrimination and why, your personal stance, etc.

I don't consider it discrimination/sexism/racism as they seek to correct the discriminatory outcomes of, say, the labour market. I do not support such affirmative action though. I support class-based affirmative action, which indirectly benefits those groups of people disproportionately in financially precarious situations or of lower socio-economic background, e.g. Africans and women, but at the same time also allows poor white males to benefit from affirmative action.

I look at it like this way. If society didn't have a problem with making special laws banning women and visible minorities from voting and holding certain jobs, they shouldn't have any problem with special laws that are made to remedy the effects of oppressing people by sex and ethnic group.

Although in a socialist country I would like the minorities and women to be represented fairly but in this capitalists society I find it hard to care what gender and race the oppressors are. It's like saying Obama shows that the USA aint racist.
