Hello, I don't know if this subject has already been debated on, but I would know what you guys think about Vietnam (today). Is it socialist? or Revisionist? or just Capitalist like the other country's?

Personally I think that it is somehow socialist, but with Revisionist issues lie the Soviet Union under Kroutchkev.

What you guys think:confused:

The existence of the law of value, classes, generalised commodity production, etcetera mean that Vietnam (and every other country) is capitalist. No amount of rhetoric or posturing can change that.

Vietnam is similar to China, it is a mixed economy, the big parts (energy, transportation, airlines, etc.) are owned by the state; a middle class owns medium sized industries and uses wage labor; most of the rest of the economy is owned and operated by individuals, small farmers, etc.

The fact that it retains characteristics of capitalism does not mean that it is capitalist (see the Critique of the Gotha Programme.)

Both the Chinese and the Vietnamese (and before them Lenin with the NEP) apparently believe they can mix socialism and capitalism and still keep their societies from degenerating into full capitalism. The jury's still out, I think.

Moved from /theory to / learning as it is a rather basic question.
