Anybody who supports Obama, who is a fan of Obama, who likes on Obama on Facebook, supports Obamacare. If a person supports a politician, it means that that person supports the political program, the political ideology, the platform of that politician. 39 million people support Obama on his Obama Facebook page. Obamacare lies exposed
12 November 2013

https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2013/11/12/pers-n12.html

The Obama administration has designed a health care system aimed at defrauding the population, stripping tens of millions of Americans of decent coverage and rationing health care along class lines. It is a scheme largely authored by the insurance and health care industry to boost their profits by depriving people of medicines, tests and procedures and lowering the life expectancy of workers.

This is the essence of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), better known as Obamacare. It is a health care counterrevolution posing as a progressive “reform.” Its full enactment will have devastating consequences for the health and the very lives of a large majority of the US population.

One of the newly exposed consequences of the ACA is a sharp reduction in a government subsidy that for years defrayed costs to hospitals for uncompensated and undercompensated care given to poor people. These subsidies have helped provide cancer and other life-saving treatments to those who would otherwise have no access to such care.

These funds for safety-net hospitals are set to be reduced by $18 billion through 2020 and by a possible additional $22 billion by 2019, inevitably resulting in increased suffering, disease and death.

It is now six weeks since the launch of the exchanges set up under the ACA to sell health insurance to the public. Virtually every day has brought new revelations showing that the promises made by President Obama in relation to his health care overhaul were lies.

The continuing crisis at the HealthCare.gov web site is more than a technical debacle. It reflects not only the ineptitude of government agencies and corporate contractors, but the character of the product the web site is peddling. It also reflects the contempt of the Obama administration for individuals and families desperate to obtain access to decent health care.

HealthCare.gov does not exist to extend affordable coverage to the millions of uninsured, offer life-saving treatments to the poor, or train new doctors and nurses. Its central feature is a requirement, backed up by fines, for people who are not insured through their employers or a government health plan such as Medicare or Medicaid to purchase coverage from a private insurance company. This will automatically expand the insurance industry’s pool of cash-paying customers.

At the same time, Obamacare will drastically reduce government expenditures on health care. It is set to slash $700 billion from the Medicare program for the elderly and disabled over the next decade.

As recently as last week, the president was making the absurd claim to supporters that through Obamacare “we were able to deliver on universal health care.” This is a brazen falsehood.

Even before the disastrous rollout of HealthCare.gov, the Congressional Budget Office was predicting that 31 million people would remain uninsured, including undocumented immigrants who are barred from receiving government subsidies to purchase coverage and millions of the very poor who will not be insured because their state governments have chosen not to expand their Medicaid programs under the ACA.

Obama was forced to go on national television last week amidst reports that hundreds of thousands of people insured through the individual market have been dropped from coverage by their insurers. These cancellations expose as yet another lie the president’s repeated claim that under Obamacare, “If you like your health plan, you can keep it.”

In the majority of cases, replacement plans offered to these customers are substantially more expensive.

ACA regulations written more than three years ago included an estimate that at least “40 to 67 percent” of the 11 million to 14 million people insured through the individual market would lose their coverage. But Obama continued to say that people would be able to keep their plans.

He attempted to cover up this lie with another in his appearance on NBC News last Thursday. “I meant what I said,” he declared, adding, “obviously we didn’t do a good enough job, and I regret that.”

The fallout over the administration’s misinformation regarding the individual insurance market is only the tip of the iceberg. Beyond this relatively small market are the 170 million Americans who are presently enrolled in health care plans through their employers. The health care overhaul has been devised as a means of dismantling this employer-based system, which for decades provided a basic level of health insurance for tens of millions of workers in the US.

Companies have already shifted their retirees off of company-administered health plans and onto privately run health care exchanges that offer plans with few benefits and large out-of-pocket expenses. City and state governments are also moving to shift their retirees, and in some cases their active employees, off of municipally funded benefits and onto privately run exchanges or directly onto the Obamacare exchanges.

Employees are offered small stipends and forced to confront gigantic health insurance corporations as individuals. This is precisely the type of voucher system that ruling class opponents of Medicare plan to institute to undermine and privatize the government-run health insurance program.
The biggest lie spread by Obama and his apologists is that the ACA constitutes a genuine social reform.

As the World Socialist Web Site correctly stated months before its passage in March of 2010, the Obama administration’s overhaul of the health care system is a “counterrevolution in health care” that is “of a piece with his entire domestic agenda,” aiming to increase social inequality.

The political strategists of the corporate-financial elite are devising schemes, such as Obamacare, aimed at reducing life expectancy for workers. As they see it, advances in medical technology have created the undesirable result of workers living too long in retirement, sapping resources that could go to further enriching the multi-millionaires and billionaires at the top of society.

The provision of universal, quality health care requires putting health care under workers’ control and placing it on socialist foundations. The working class must answer the Obamacare counterrevolution with its own program and perspective, placing the social rights of the working class above the profit drive of the outmoded capitalist system and its parasitic ruling elite.

1) I think you are overestimating the connection between liking a politicians Facebook page and being both aware and staunchly in favour of all aspects of their policies.
2) I would guess a significant amount of people who 'like' Obama on Facebook are also from other countries, for whom the details of Obama's healthcare reforms are irrelevant and insignificant.

The ACA allowed my ex to receive life saving surgury and medication without racking up $100000s in debt.

In the absense or free universal healthcare, ACA is the next best thing

Hi, wow, that means that the total price of the surgery that saved your wife was really 100,000 dollars? Wow, no wonder most doctors in USA have an upper class lifestyle. I also think that one of the main causes of why there are so many ultra-expensive things in America (not only medical services), but many many other goods and services are super-valued, over-valued is really that USA has a sort of oligarchic mafia-cartel economic-political model, in which the whole country is ruled by different mafia-cartels (The military mafia-cartel, the medical mafia-cartel, the oil mafia cartel, the food mafia cartel, the construction mafia-cartel, the car industry mafia-cartel and the other mafia cartels) in which all are inter-connected, bribe Obama and US congress into maintaining the current political system in USA so that their services and goods would be real expensive to the consumers, so that the owners of those mafia-cartels, and a lower-layer of those mafia cartels (middle professional upper classes (like doctors, like lawyers, like high-wage workers etc) keep the USA oligarchic hell like it is right now (I.E: produce a political hell of a system in which 30% to 40% (rulers of USA) live like kings and queens and keep the 70% to 60% like they are now, pieces of trash, totally dumbed down, working-machines, poor, stressed, depressed, tax payers, bills-payers, mind-controlled, zombified, tired human waste so that they will never organize into radical marxists leftist parties and overthrow the 60% of the USA population who live a life of pain, a hell on earth).

PD: I think its really the lifestyle of the great majority of oppressed americans, who live a hell on earth, evern worse than poor third world countries, a life of pain 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. And not even superman of the movies can cope with such a hell of a labor-gulag and life that USA is in order for that majority to be able to be angry and desperate into organizing into a big leftist party and be ready to overthrow the US capitalist system

I swear you should write a novel with the amount of adjectives you use.

The doctor doesn't receive a $100,000 check, there are a lot of moving parts that are in play when it comes to major medical treatment. The issue isn't that doctors are paid a high salary, the issue is that health care is treated as a commodity and sold for profit.

hi again Slavic: I think those are not really adjectives but the reality of the USA where most people are so ockward, weird and crazy, because they have to be crazy to love Obama and Republicans (2 political parties that has only produced a system where they live a life of pain).

And the thing is that i get very desperate and very angry at times living in America, a nation where most people who really live a life of pure pain (without pleasures) are zombies, mind-controlled robots, slaves in which in 2016 the great majority of US voters (with their stupid brains) will give us Jeb bush or Hillary clinton (2 capitalist robbers and killers) in which gasoline will continue to go up, food prices will rise, taxes will rise and America will continue to be a very painful country to live in. IT IS NOT EASY HAVING TO LIVE IN A VERY CONFORMIST SOCIETY THAT LOVES POVERTY.

PD: saying Bush or Hillary will be president in 206 is not a crazy Nostradamus conspiracy. you will see how most american voters will be unable to vote for a third party in 2016. The Green Party (which is not even a radical leftist party) is too anti-USA, too radical, too terrorist for the Sarah Palin and football dad mentality of most americans who conform with mowing lawns for a few extra bucks or garage sales to get poverty and pain.

This doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Are you being sarcastic/trolling with comments like these?

And why do folks who post WSWS articles focus so much on websites like Facebook and Reddit?

Wait a minute, you call this statement a troll?--> "Anybody who supports Obama, who is a fan of Obama, who likes on Obama on Facebook, supports Obamacare. If a person supports a politician, it means that that person supports the political program, the political ideology, the platform of that politician"

This is a very scientific correct statement. When people vote for a political party, they vote for the political system of that party. When people support Obama and vote for Obama, they support the legalized robbery of the Obamacare of Obama.

You are the one trolling, you are the real troll here, because you said that my statement is a troll, which is not. You more than me know that *voting* means endorsing and supporting the whole political system of what ever party that voter votes for.

PD: So just because you have over 2000 posts you are a not a troll and because I only have 259 posts i am totally wrong and a stupid troll? What the hell is happening with you people, I am desperate for communism. Being desperate is nota crime !!

That's like the people of Facebook, who think that having thousands of friends, makes them superior to Facebook members who have only a few friends

Please explain how it's a scientific statement in any sense of that word.

AmilcarCabral: you cannot be that dumb. Clicking "like" on Facebook doesn't equal any REAL support for something,

For example: if someone "likes" a communist page on Facebook, does that make them a communist?

No and don't take it personally. It only means we get a lot of trolls here - even ones who post random things for a long time or do hit-and-run provocative posts for a while before engaging the site fully and revealing themselves to be trolls.

At any rate, I agree with you that "Obamacare" is not really a "reform" of the health care system - at least not a reform that really helps workers who can't get decent health care in the first place. My wife was on a county plan which is actually more generous than Obamacare and reduces costs more.

But I agree with the others here that facebook likes, or even polls of a President's popularity really give us much of a picture of consiousness right now. I live in a very pro-Democrat city where until the last couple of years I had to do a lot of qualifying and explaining just to get to a criticizm of Obama with workers, particularly black workers. If I just talked about the issues, however, people would agree with me - when I started connecting that to Obama and the Democrats though... it got cold quick. What that suggests to me is a kind of strange expression of the contradictions in ideas that people have on the one hand, but also that people feel so disconnected from being able to affect any actual change in society, that they then evaluate political figures not on what they can or can't or did actually accomplish, but on other things - personality, rehtoric, do they "look Presidential"? In other words: workers in the US have very low expectations, so being not a white guy named Bush is "better than nothing" for a presidential quality, talking left sometimes is enough for some, "trying" to do something about Health Care is "better than nothing".

Actual polls on the issue of Health Care in the US have shown strong minority support in the total population and even majority-support among Democratic voters for something more like the health care reforms that happened in other coutries, "universal" "national health" etc. Those Democrats that want Universal health care have excatly what option in their view though? In their minds they just elected the most liberal person in a generation, if he can't do it, well then we "must be realistic".

This is why trying to create a space for, and a traddition of, independant working class politics and movements is so essential. If all the unions that supported Obama were, instead, oriented around using their organization and labor leverage to directly confront things and struggle for a class agenda, then even if only a few rank-and-file people from various local unions went to those healt care "town halls" then they could have outnumbered the Tea Party-ists and pushed against Obama-care from the other dirrection for full coverage for anyone. But as it stands people only had a choice of supporting A) the status quo or B) some kind of reform attempt by Obama. We have to make our own option C, for communism :P

That is the problem with politics today. People are firmly set in their views ad refuse to change, even if they are wrong and cannot support their claims with evidence. People need to have an open mind. Most of the time i try to discuss communism with a capitalist, I can't change their mind as they are so firm set and brainwashed into believing that they cannot change their minds. It is sad. But, there are some people that accept the message and we can convert them. We need to attempt to convert them to communism, and after we have converted them to communism and we have built a large party, then we can go after the people who are firm set in their pro capitalist ideas.

There are bound to be Non-Americans that like Obama on FaceBook.
