This person that I know says that the monarchy is bad because some nutter could be king or queen. Even though that they have power they can't use it to any affect if they want to stay as the monach. So they haveno efective power.

The point Moskitto is in the profit. Im sure the british royal family brings in millions in tourism revenues, enough that the British government posts a profit. It's probably one of the few british public ventures that posts a profit.

Monarchs have one very important intangable asset called charisma. and since power is passed down through the royal family as one after another dies, it must be a hereditary trait.
therefore the actual monarch doesn't need to have any intellect since their advisors just tell them what to say and they make the nation believe it

If we were to have a referendum in the UK to get of the monarch then I would do my best to get rid of them. But I think that the reasons that Freiheit gave basically some up why people won't get rid of them. Also with older generations you have the "Blitz spirit" of the royals sharing the war with them and pulling through. Maybe when they die out then the system will be changed as they loss support.

Tourism, is the key. Pride and patriotism perhaps, but who gives shit if you're making a bundle. Aristocracy, wanting to keep power? In the aggragate the world has never seen it so good, one of the few groups of people who HAVE had it better in the past is aristocrats, they retain no power.


Finally, ROYAL CHARISMA? Have you taken a look at the royals lately. Well except for William, but give him a few years, thousands of dollars of Coke, and a bad case of Britney contracted herpes and we'll see how charismatic he is.
