OK, so this is probably a bit of a silly question....

We all know the symbol of the crossed sickle and hammer. It's been a symbol of hope for millions of workers (and a symbol of terror for thousands of bourgeoisie), but I've noticed that some groups actually put the two implements on different sides.

We all know the standard:

But I've also seen the tools pointing in different directions, like so:

So I must ask: Is there any significance to the way these tools are facing? Or is it just some sort of stylistic choice?

The right-facing version tends to be favoured by some Trotskyist groups, as in the examples posted.

The way in which it is positioned also indicates the amount of time until the emancipation of mankind.
