"I'm a US citizen"

...who's wearing the uniform of the Ukrainian MVDU

Vid looked a little sketch but the underlying point is not unbelievable, quite the opposite. I would expect the US to be involved in Ukraine at lengths we'll probably never know in full.

Why would he have to be private sector?

Why would he have to be private sector?
That's a good point.

Why would he have to be private sector?

Seems most likely, kind of risky to place an agent among rank and file MVD.

That looks staged.

That's a good point.

Private sector does give more plausible deniability as they could have been hired through the state or private companies and not the US directly, and most of those armed contractors are ex-special forces/marines/infantry anyways so they are no less skilled and capable.

Yea, unless someone can translate what they are speaking, the video just seems odd.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs suggests that these guys are affiliated with Greystone, an Academi (fka Blackwater) subcontractor.

Supposing this guy works for Blackwater... the first thing out of his mouth is "I am an American"? Really? After Fallujah?

Not that I'd put it past the powers-that-be to import a bunch of American mercenaries, mind you.

I haven't been able to watch the videos yet, but what exactly is sinister about this? It doesn't seem unexpected or unusual, as far as I can tell. Is there something I'm missing?

The rats in Kiev have been employing mercs in the Southern regions for weeks now. This is public info.

So the issue is that the Ukrainian government is building a merc army? Or what?

Well not really. They're mostly using mercs in areas where they have basically zero control (ie the police won't go bust the heads they want busted) like South and East Ukraine. Even European powers have threatened Kiev over this.

I think militants in Fallujah had less concern about creating an international incident by hanging dead American mercenaries from a bridge. The pro-Russian protests in Ukraine are probably a little more aware of their public image. Either they're Russian pawns and they don't want to embarrass Russia, or they are desiring Russian help and they don't want to look like violent fanatics who would embarrass Russia.

My guess is that he feared he was going to be killed right there since he was shooting, so by immediately saying he was American, he became valuable and would be taken hostage instead. He's a merc...it's not as if he's loyal to anything higher than a paycheck.
