Hello there friends, I'm Wittmann and it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance.
I'm an English speaker by birth but I picked up German along the way.
Politically speaking I am in a bit of a void right now. I long for the freedom that people deserve, yet I look around me and recognize that giving everyone freedom would cause them to destroy themselves through lack of management. I guess you could say I want people to be free, but worry that freedom could harm them. As such I cannot label myself politically, hopefully after some time here I can learn about various ideologies and make a decision.
My greatest feeling of sadness comes from the abundance of technology available to us today, where one person in 2014 can complete in an hour what a person in 1950 would be able to do in a week, and yet we still must work 40+ hours a week to provide the bare essentials for our survival. I doubt the man that invented the calculator said "Oh boy this will make it so much easier for my boss to make money!", I imagine he thought of a world where one day people wouldn't have to work as hard, and would have more time for themselves.
Anyway, Kameraden, Wittmann aus!
Welcome :)

What do you mean, exactly? How would freedom harm people?

Welcome.

This here is where I run into the issue.
What is the purpose of the state?
If the state exists to protect people, then people cannot be given vast freedoms, as they will do themselves harm (addictions, laziness, etc.).
Though I also question, if people were given no responsabilities, and the resources for a happy life, would they spend it wastefully, or productively?

Alright, but why should that be a concern of the state? I think this sort of "people must be forced to be happy and lead meaningful lives" thinking leads to all sorts of problems - people used to think homosexual lives were not meaningful, happy and moral for example. Today some people argue for the pathologisation and discrimination against trans* individuals in order to do them good, supposedly.

I don't believe the happiness of every individual is the responsibility of the state. Society will never be perfect or Utopian unless production existed at such a rapid and automated scale that the cost of basic livelihood was so absurdly low that labor became optional.
Nonetheless I take a Stalinist (Article 121) view regarding deviant sexual practices, as they are derived from the society of the bourgeois, and divide mankind. Although I recognize my opinion is the minority on this board so I would prefer to leave this specific topic with the statement that I hope we can agree to disagree.
How do you view the transition to a leftist society occurring?

Generally I view Socialism (in the modernist sense), as high taxes on buisiness and the wealthy, social services being subsidized by the government, including healthcare, education, and such.
In the pure view, Socialism is the transfer of the means of production from the Bourgoueis to the Proletariat.

Before I can agree to disagree I have to ask a qualifying question.
I am understanding your posts above, you believe that once someone has been found to be homosexual, they should be imprisoned for 5 years per Article 121?

No, I was simply quoting a definite piece of legislation from the Soviet Union to demonstrate my beliefs were founded from political and historical analysis and rational decisions, as opposed to religious beliefs.
The issue specifically with A121 is how one can be found to be homosexual or bisexual. Is it the act of being homosexual that I am against, no, as I personally believe that it is a mental disorder that one is born with, and the individual in question cannot be guilty of a crime without intent, that being, intent to carry oneself in a homosexual manner. I would be for punishment for homosexual acts themselves, but not simply for being born homosexual.
Overall though, I think it's such a negligable issue that spending resources to enforce intervention into private lives is a waste of public time.

Per our policy on homophobia, Wittman has been banned.
