Women between 25 and 30 years now earn more money then men of the same age. This is mostly because Dutch women are better educated. The gap in income between men and women in general has narrowed as well, a few years ago men earned about 20% more then women, now that figure is 18%.
I suppose this is a good development. My grandmother wasn't able to go to university but now women are higher educated then men of my generation. This comes to me as no surprise seeing that girls are in general better learners though
I have to say this may also be the result of the reforms in higher education which seems more difficult for men to follow then for women. You know need to follow more subjects in the broad sense instead of the specialism-directed schools of the old days. For young men it seems harder to keep this up.
In another news, the unemployment percentage in the Netherlands has risen to 8,8% and unemployment for young people is close to 25%
