View Full Version : If I'm proud about anything I've done, it's my work history.

I try not to be proud about anything, because I see pride as a weakness. But there is one thing I’m proud about. It’s my work history.

I've done a lot of work in my life. I fixed the electronics in the military jets that kept them from getting hit by missiles (before I was an anarchist), I ran a printing press producing wrapping paper in a factory, I manufactured medical tape, produced screws at a factory, I drove 18-wheelers for four years all around the eastern U.S., I've installed sheetrock in houses and done other construction work, I've done farm work, and I worked in a fast food restaurant cleaning the bathrooms and the fryers.

And then there was the work I did as a kid. When I was 10 and 12 years old I worked 30 hours a week sweating my ass off hauling logs, shoveling dirt and bricks, and all for no pay.

And now I collect social security disability, and assholes call me societies lazy sponge, milking the system as if I haven’t already earned my place in life. If I weren't so dedicated to being a pacifist, I would punch some people right in the mouth for saying that shit.

I know how you feel. Society sucks, especially people who follow the mainstream line - they've lost the ability to think for themselves and they simply repeat ruling class ideas. Naturally, they are gonna say hurtful things. I have the experience. My advice: ignore them, they aren't worth it.

And good on you for working so hard in life. I am a lazy bugger myself.

I've had a mental illness for the past five and a half years and will have to look for my first job soon. I've been stuck living with my parents for that time. My friends however, still give me that "are you looking for a job yet?" routine (with the one exception who is having mental problems himself) and I feel the same way (generally pacifist who'd like to tell them to F-off). But they haven't been inside my head fighting my battles so they don't know, even when I tell them.

Pride is healthy. it's just what you put pride into that counts. A life-time of hard work is definitely something to be proud of. :)

You're not rich enough to be one of those. Come back when you have a few million in the bank.
