Has there ever been a British version of Communist urban guerilla groups like the rote armee fraktion, Zapatistas or the JRA?

Yes, but Trotskyism has always been a bit more popular in Britain. There were Trotskyist groups in the 70s found with arms. They never actually took any action. Trotskyists insist the revolution is coming, as soon as there is a strike or labour dispute they see a possibility, these arms were not for any terroristic action or to incite a geurrilla war in that way but in preperation for struggle they thought iminent. I doubt there are left-wing groups that are armed in Britain nowadays. I can't remember the names of any of Trotskyist groups who did have arms. They had automatic rifles, grenades and so forth.

There was an obscure group called the 'Workers Army' back in 1982-83, they were the only Marxist guerrilla group that has surfaced in Britain.
The Workers Army only action was killing a police officer in 1982 and they were arrested in 1983.

The IRA or the 'Real IRA'? The IRA are the 'original' IRA, they are the ones lead by Michael Collins. I don't think they ever wanted a socialist workers republic, as such. They may have wanted a socialist republic in a more limited sense however. The 'Real IRA' split off from the IRA when the IRA called a truce with England and effectivly supported the partition of Ireland. AFAIK they want the same thing as the IRA, a full and united Ireland, they are just going about it in a different way.

The IRA wanted a social-ist republic. Only communist-influenced. No, Britain has not had anything more than a very slight communist presence since....forever. Nothing hostile, anyway. Parties have made some impact from around 1900-50 tho, as in everywhere worldwide.

I think the nearest we came to a revolutionary time was under Thatcher in the mid 80's with the miners strike, which gave rise to Scargil and socialist labour party.

kingbee,
Officially the IRA/Sinn Féin call for a Socialist 32 County Republic though the leadership would completely reject this now in practice. They would probably still claim differently though, in order to maintain a relationship with the working class communities, Populists.
