God, this show is so good. Only 8 episodes to a season, though? I heard next season will be a completely different setting and possibly different actors, a la American Horror Story.

yeah, that's what i heard, too. it's going to be hard to top, though, and i'm going to be really disappointed if the next season is set in a predictable big city, like NYC or LA.
it took me a while to realize that the show is kind of self-aware of how ridiculous Cohle's philosophical musings are. but, indeed, this is a great show. some of the best southern noir i've seen in a while.

Matthew McConaughey should collaborate with Ben Affleck on a movie about male romantic comedy stars striving to break through to artistic legitimacy.

Weren't there only six episodes in the first season of Breaking Bad?

yeah, but Breaking Bad always had an intention of having a multi-season story arch if it was renewed after its pilot season. the True Detective creators have flat out said that theirs was going to be a anthology-like show, where each season takes on a different story.

Oh yeah. Like American Horror Story. I think the Wire did that too...

The Wire was sort of in the middle of that style, but it kept a cohesive story arc with the same characters. it just related the story to different topics each season.
i haven't seen American Horror Story beyond the first season, but as i understand it, they used mostly the same actors. just different story lines and characters. in this sense, it sounds like True Detective is going to be more like AHS... except, i think they said that the next season is going to be all different actors, in addition to new characters and stories.

they shouldn't leave off as they did, I feel as though nothing was solved

I loved the season, but the finale was a bit of a letdown.

Fuck y'all, the finale was perfect. That little "WTF" moment with the space-porn in the lair was exactly what I was looking for.

i thought the finale was pretty awesome. i don't like easy endings, so, that worked for me.

I think I didn't want to lose my enthusiasm for what was in general a very solid finale, at least if you've already been excited and then disappointed by, say, Lost or The X-Files. I certainly didn't expect any resolution with the Carcosa/Yellow King stuff, but it was a little disappointing that they didn't follow through on the whole grand-government-conspiracy angle, just a quick mention about how "the Tuttle family denies all connections with the killings" or whatever. I enjoyed the finale for what it was, quite a bit, but with a series like this I think you're kind of looking for something that will make you want to go back right away and watch it from the beginning with the new knowledge you've gained, as opposed to something that will make you open to watching it again in the near future, which is still very good compared to something that makes you want to completely forget about the entire experience. (i.e., Lost, for me.)

yeah, i saw some of the comparisons to Lost and it didn't make any sense to me. watching True Detective was a bit like eating a great meal that made you feel satisfied. it was plated nicely, had good portions and didn't weigh too heavily on you afterwards. Lost was more like a buffet, where you gorged yourself and then at the end, the restaurant owners came into the room and said what you actually ate was reconstituted human shit.

Its interesting folks mention lost cause that's a show I followed for about 5 seasons till I had to stop watching cause I felt it just got so stupid. I liked this show, rust's character was awesome, I think I've got a bit of a crush on him. I actually enjoyed the ending, due to the fact that he was so dark and pessimistic throughout the show and by the end made the comment that the light was winning, as far as the whole sky analogy went. I saw the affair coming the entire series, but that was the only predictable element to me. There was a point I honestly thought rust could be the seriel killer. Truth be told, I kinda feel like rust was right, he should have died. Good show overall.
