Tekhnika Molodezhi (Technology of the Youth) is a Russian popular science magazine that started publication during the Soviet Union. Much like popular science magazines elsewhere from the 30s-60s there was a lot of depictions of what they thought the future would look like and what technologies would be prevalent in war (especially during WWII for obvious reasons) and peace, along with science-fiction short stories. And much like their counterparts in the west this was a very optimistic vision of the future. I guess too like with the American popsci magazines too there's campy charm to some of these and the unintentional horror of others

There are some interesting covers in here-

If you want to go further the magazine which is still in publication has an archive with all their issues here:

(I wasn't sure if this was better suited for history or the arts forum. I think it's better in history but mods feel free to move it)

That's actually really cool. Now I just need to learn Russian.

What's this issue (http://zhurnalko.net/=nauka-i-tehnika/tehnika-molodezhi/1964-08) about?:

That was another interesting cover, but for the forum's sake I was limited to throwing 40 up on the op. In the magazines themselves there are nice full-color diagrams and concepts too.

I don't know what's going on since I don't speak Russian either. This was a youth magazine so it concerned itself with alot of what the youth would be interested in, or at least what the publishers (and by extension the government) thought the youth should be interested in.

The Soviets held two youth forums in 1961 and 1964, both of which were sponsored by the World Federation of Democratic Youth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Federation_of_Democratic_Youth) which was a broadly left-wing youth group that operated extensively in the eastern bloc and other friendly states. The cover may have been referring to the 1964 forum that was hosted in Moscow or just more broadly the importance/ progress in uniting the youth.

According to what I look up on the internet the 1964 forum was titled the very long "World Forum of Solidarity of Youth and Students in the Fight for National Independence and Liberation for Peace" (http://www.iisg.nl/archives/en/files/w/ARCH01670.php) which as the name implied covered anti-colonial and anti-imperialist struggles that were big in the 1950s and 1960s. Hence the cover showing a lot of diversity, especially people from different parts of Asia and Africa (I swear, the guy in the green fatigues in the forefront sitting next to the guy with the headdress with the beard reminds me of Che). According to the same site this forum came in the midst of the Sino-Soviet split since it was around that time Mao intensified his criticism of the USSR and relations between the two states hit the low point by that year, and apparently that meant the forum was cut short and no further ones were held.
