Damn I hate rude customers (I work as a fast food drive thru cashier). But at the same time I shouldn't be surprised. The US is a capitalist country, and thus elements of fascism and liberalism are an every day occurrence.

We aren't paid to like our jobs, we are just paid to do them.

I'm nice to customers on the grounds that I'm not a jerk. But of course customers are still rude to me. But as I said before, it's just business. I'm only at my job to make money, and they only stop there to get food.

RE: Old Rosie, I once sat in a pub and drank old Rosie all morning/afternoon. It ended up with me falling asleep in said pub and having some random woman paint my face with make up whilst I was asleep. It would have been fine if it ended there however when I awoke a bit later (still very, very drunk, in fact I think the term "awoke" might be giving me too much credit.) I decided that I would declare to the entire pub my wish that they should all develop some form of horrific cancer and that I was on my way to molest members of the royal family. A friend then escorted me home as I took the opportunity to insult every human being (and one dog) I encountered on the way all while still wearing make-up. To this day I have no idea how I managed to make it through that day without being arrested or having someone lay into me.

Security cops were temporarily shocked but then noticeably nicer to me when I told them I was at the court for a job. I think they probably prejudged me based on the fact that my glasses are broken & taped together, and it almost makes me not want to even wear the new ones I just spent the last of my money to get.

I really fucking hate cigarette smoke and the fact that it sticks to my fucking clothes just from being around someone who smokes. I try not to hold it against smokers that their habit is by its very nature really inconsiderate of other people, but I end up doing so anyway sometimes.

Random thoughts:

Emma Goldman blows my mind every time I read her work; I read through like three different things of hers on the anarchist archive, and I think my favorite was "marriage and love". Currently trying to decide if I should read Gloria Steinem or Judith Butler; I read some Steinem in college and it was amazing, but Butler seems really intriguing. I really wish I had a circle of intellectual friends who I could discuss this sort of shit with, and I'm probably going to end up emailing my old professor to ask her her opinions.

Amount of PDA/touching/etc. in non-American countries weirds me out. Blowing me kisses and shit when we're good friends is still, to me, saying "let's fuck", even though I know this person has no intentions of doing that. It's still weird and confusing. I'm not a very touchy-feely person unless I'm also romantically involved. Even standing in line with people less than like 2-3 feet away creeps me the fuck out, and I've been told that outside of America it's even worse re: personal space.

I wish I had better facial hair, not that it matters, because all of my friends seem to agree that my chances of getting the job I'll be interviewing for are improved tenfold if I go in clean shaven. Last interview I didn't bother to shave and I didn't get it, but I also don't think the woman doing the interview liked my personality either. Oh well.

I was about to start in on their writings in general (I have a thing that's just called "Tiqqun: Exercises in Critical Metaphysics"), apparently it isn't a great translation but I figure I can deal with it. But yeah, it seems like it'll be a little dense.

I do have some understanding of the concepts they talk about through friends who've discussed them but I don't really know how accurate my understanding of them are (bloom and the young girl).

The one you have is the first I believe, but their stuff can be read in any kind of order so it's not like it matters. Recently MIT press took 3 or 4 of their longer essays and turned them into books with nice translations, but they're pretty expensive IMO for shit that you can find online for free.

Yeah that is true, it helped me that i'd already learned a fair deal about 60's/70's Italy beforehand, through books like "Storming Heaven", "Books for Burning", "Memoirs of an Italian Terrorist" and some other ones. They're at their best when they're analyzing the concrete political actions of people in the radical scene, and not getting into the silly metaphysical goobledeegook of Agamben or Guattari or Deleuze or whatever other hack they find interesting for some mysterious reason.

The term "barbarian" is Greek in origin, from "barbaros", supposedly an onomatopoeia for harsh-sounding speech, "bar bar bar". Of course the Greeks didn't really think that foreign languages sounded like "bar bar bar", just as Americans don't think people who babble sound like "yadda yadda yadda".

Trousers were considered, not so much "barbaric", as oriental, by the Greeks and those Romans who idolised Greeks, since they were standard attire in Persia.
