There is a finite amount of resources which are insufficient to satisfy all human wants and needs, thus there is scarcity.

If you want to talk about food, then look up what Amartya Sen has to say about democracy and famine. The guy is not a Marxist so you can feel safe about the information you receive.

Depends on what you are talking about. Some resources aren't really scarce. Take intellectual property--where artificial scarcity is applied. Other resources might be scarce because we lack certain technologies. A large percentage of scarcity is artificial.

They are scarce, it takes effort etc to produce them, people are not going to work for nothing.

No, you have to provide incentives in order to create, inequity will come about as a result, it is inevitable.
Inequality comes with economic growth.

Indeed it takes effort to get diamonds and gold, but profit is a really shitty incentive to do things.

Someone made Linux. If you want to get more products like Linux etc, the best way of doing that if providing people with a reason to make them. Some will be motivated by the greater good, most will not, humans are not perfect.

No, people want more and more, human wants are infinite. That is why they are wants, not needs.

That's because of the logic of capitalism, not how people have always operated.
If humans wants are infinite, regardless of the system they live under, prove it.

Do you personally own any luxuries?
Lets assume yes as you are using a computer/laptop. Which I doubt you really NEED.
Now, why did you buy this computer? Well because you thought it would make you happy, thus you wanted it. But the level of your wants is arbitrary, 20 years ago you would of wanted a lower quality computer, but as technology progresses your standards begin to raise and you want an even higher standard of living. Thus your wants are limitless, as you want more as a result of having more.

Hopefully alternative renewable resources will start to take
EDIT:
You're fucking argument is so fucking outdated and ridiculous. "Err money encourages people to invent shit." This is simply not the case (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polio_vaccine). Yeha I'll admit in a capitalist world where people are treated like shit some are encouraged to invent thing to better their living standard. But when say communism comes about people won't suffer the abuses of greed and humanity will be encourage to make things for the sake of bettering humanity. Know I hope if you ever discover the cure for AIDs or Cancer your first thought won't be "How much money can I make off this"

Way to not answer Echo's question. He/she asked to PROVE that human wants are infinite (they aren't). He didn't ask that if humans want whats best or if he wants a higher standard of living. And he certainly didn't ask you give him some trite meaningless metaphorical scenario from out your ass, and then claim that to be evidence. He said PROVE it.

Way to completely miss the point. Read intently, you might learning something, I showed that his wants are relative to his standard of living, that as his standard of living rises, what he is content with being his standard of living falls, thus human wants are looped and infinite. Is English not your native tongue or something?

It's a tautology, who wouldn't agree with it. The point is the next two facts- what are they sufficient for and why isn't that sufficiency actualized. One, it is a fact that the finite amount of resources of the Earth is very much sufficient to satisfy the basic needs and a fair ammount of wants of all people, and has always been sufficient for that. Two, it is a fact that hunger, poverty and similar stuff is produced by faulty (concretely, class divided) social systems, not some imaginary unsuffiency of resources.

There's a danger here that you're confusing/conflating 'needs' and 'wants' depending on what you mean by these terms. A person needs access to clean water, they might 'want' to drink it out of a gold tap (if they're an arsehole) but there's a difference.

Blairite = dude who is all about Tony Blair and his ideology
Clintonite = a calcium magnesium aluminium phyllosilicate mineral. It is a member of the margarite group of micas and the subgroup often referred to as the "brittle" micas. Clintonite has the chemical formula: Ca(Mg,Al)3(Al3Si)O10(OH)2. Like other micas and chlorites, clintonite is monoclinic in crystal form and has a perfect basal cleavage parallel to the flat surface of the plates or scales. The Mohs hardness of clintonite is 6.5, and the specific gravity is 3.0 to 3.1. It occurs as variably colored, colorless, green, yellow, red, to reddish-brown masses and radial clusters.
For real though: Clintonite = dude who is all about Bill Clinton and his ideology. Both Blair and Clinton are Third Way (read: boring centrists who are socially liberal but more fiscally conservative -- not "Third Position" as in fascist). The wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_Way)has a lot more info than I'm able to give right now since I'm running to work.
