Is there anyone on here who tries to avoid referring to themselves as a Marxist or an anarchist because you're young and you feel like adults will just shrug you off as a rebellious teenager and won't take your input seriously?

If they don't take you seriously because you're an anarchist/Marxist/whatever, they are probably are fucking stupid and not worth your time.

I do not try to hide that I'm an anarchist to adults, I just strategically place it in conversation when it becomes useful, same with a lot of other shit.

Keep in mind it doesn't matter how someone labels themselves, all that matters is the content of their message. If someone isn't willing to listen to the content then they are obviously fucking up.

I don't refer to myself as a Marxist because I'm too damn young/know too little to be called such.

In response to the OP, I see you are from Michigan, and frankly most people in the US don't take anyone seriously who calls themselves Marxists/anarchists regardless of their age, so you should probably get used to it. It doesn't necessarily mean people will dismiss everything you have to say, though (at least not if you give them a reason not to). For example, people at my work know what my political views are and make jokes about it etc. but I've noticed when it comes to actual, practical stuff going on, most of my co-workers (with the exception of a small clique of really Christian women who hate me for reasons unrelated to politics) seem to really appreciate and respect what I have to say. And it's not like I'm old or highly experienced; I'm in my mid-20s and one of the younger people at my work. So I think, even if people immediately dismiss you on the basis of whatever political label, that if you can relate to them and explain your views in the context of stuff going on that is relevant to their lives, they may still give consideration to what you have to say, regardless of your age or whatever.

Yeah, I don't hide it but I don't tell everyone either. I just say it when I feel it's relevant, although at my age I feel that calling myself an anarchist sounds like I'm trying to be a cool, punk rock, fight the system, f*ck you, teenager. Anarchist sounds more aggressive but it describes my views best. I would call myself a libertarian socialist, but most people would either not know what that is or think it's some sort of oxymoron contradiction. Also some probably disregard the libertarian, highlight the socialist, and start coming at me with Stalin and Lenin remarks and call me a Marxist. That's why I don't like calling myself a communist because they just automatically assume I'm a Marxist.

No, I don't mention it ever, why? Cause more people agree with me and respond more favorably when I just spout off shit without labeling it. I like it that way.

I mean, when I mention anarchy it's common for people to think of Somalia or piracy or Fallout or Mad Max or something. Whereas if I just talk about specific issues like prison abolishment, animal lib, women's lib, police brutality/corruption, anti-government sentiments, alternative theories, etc. it's more neutral, people feel they can formulate their own conclusions or feel compelled to take a side in a lively convo. Way better that way.

Last year when I was striking had I mentioned things by name I would have gotten a lot of blank states and it'd be off putting; mentioning specific tactics its was more engaging, relevant and ppl got pumped up and such.

I just say I have anarchist sympathies. It's not that I have trouble explaining it to people - it's that "anarchist sympathies" is the closest I can come to actually pinpointing my ideology.
