Just curious as to what types of music people here are in to, and whether or not your politics tend to influence that.

I like to anything from John Coltrane, to Bob Marley, to Jimi Hendrix, to George Benson, to Dvorak.
Anything aside from most contemporary punk, emo, trance, (some) country, hardcore, and techno.
I especialy like the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, the Rolling Stones, Deep Purple, Eric Clapton, the Who, Yes, Aerosmith, Miles Davis, Robin Trower, and Queen.
As far as genres go, I preffer jazz, rock, classical, blues, and rap.
When it comes rock, I preffer classic rock.
My favourite jazz is bebop, like Coltrane, etc.
And I like stuff from the romantic era when it comes to classical, like Beethoven, Dvorak, Chopin, etc.
I couldn't care less what polical inclinations teh artists have.
I won't, however, sit through anything that is particularly reactionary.
I always like to offer support and help spread the popularity of bands with good political messages.

I was going to post something. Then I realized that Mr. Victor over there said all what I wanted to say. Meh.
So, apart from that, I also like artists like Radiohead, Bjork, Rammstein, Cat Stevens, Iron Maiden, The Police and 80's stuff.

TOWER OF POWER
There's all kinds of music, everywhere you go
Some folks like it fast, and some like it slow
Some like it hot, some like it blue
Uh some like it old, and some like it new
Now I'm not liking country, and I'm not rappin' rap
You can make a man swing, just say my thing
You know alternative aiin't my step
The only thing that turns me on
Is when I hear a soulful song
I like soul with a capital S
Soul with a capital S
Sweet soul music, that's the best
Soul with a capital S
Music makes you happy, and it can make you sad
It can turn the worst day to the best you ever had
For entertainment value if I had to choose
You and me might disagree, 'cause I like rythm and blues
Now I'm not dissin' disco, I'm not saying punk is bunk
I can't settle for heavy metal, cause I got to have that funk
I like soul with a capital S
Soul with a capital S
Sweet soul music, that's the best
Soul with a capital S
Oh, there's people who tell you to get in with the times
It doesn't even matter if your poem rhymes
But I'm here to tell you, whatever comes along
There's something out there for everyone and there ain't no right or
wrong
I like soul with a capital S
Soul with a capital S
Sweet soul music, that's the best
Soul with a capital S
Some rock makes you lazy
Highschool leaves you flat
Fusion drives you crazy
That's now funk is where it's at
I like soul with a capital S
Soul with a capital S
Sweet soul music, that's the best
Soul with a capital S
I like soul with a capital S
Soul with a capital S
Sweet soul music, that's the best
Soul with a capital S
Bad lyrics, but I am to lazy to do my own.

Rock, classic rock especially. Lots of 60's music, anything political is good by me. Some underground rap, like dead prez, etc...
These days, there's a few bands bringing back the 70's rock feeling, that would include The Darkness, The White Stripes, The Strokes, Sloan, The Hives, Liam Lynch, Jet, etc...
The 70's are back!
Oh, and of course, some punk.
And yeah, politics is a huge plus, but most of the music I listen to is not political.

Yeah my politics certainly influence the kind of music that I listen to. Most of what I listen to is political in some way but I can also enjoy good apolitical songs.

I also agree with victorcommie....although I prefer jazz fusion to bebop. I guess slightly more accepting of country ( I like folk music quite a bit) and dance I appreciate in certain circumstances.
As for romantic period, I agree completely...I like things to happen in my music...less form more emotion. I love Rachmaninov and (please don't go mad) appreciate Wagner also...I understand his surroundings and outlook, however his music is powerful as a result. Stravinsky is possibly my favourite composer and the Rite of Spring is in my top 5 music pieces ever. As far as I am concerned he spawned modern music.
