greetings everyone from rainy, flooded England.
I'm new to RevLeft (as you probably guessed) and would like to introduce myself.
My name is Jamie, an 18 year old student from the shabby east midlands (England). I study history, media and sociology at A level and have held a Left tendency for around 6 years.
I first felt inclined towards the left wing when learning about the ideas behind the Soviet union and the political spectrum as a whole.
From this developed an interest in Marxist ideology and the broader ideas of the revolutionary left.
I began to read into the writings of key philosophers in line with my studies which has led me to dabble into the works of Marx, Engels and Althusser to coincide with my history and sociology lectures, as well as writers like Gramsci, Adorno and Marshall McLuhan in line with media work.
I have also started to read into the classic socialist literature of the 19th and 20th century, stuff like, Utopia, Germinal, HG Wells, Orwell and the work of John Reed.
I decided to join the forum and get involved as I have vowed to become more and more active in a political and ideological sense in order to stress the views that I hold in more expressive ways.
I have recently joined the Socialist Workers' Party (UK) and am pending requests for work experience in the trade unions.
As much as I have developed knowledge over the past years as being a socialist thinker, I still believe that I have much to learn and understand, namely the key in's and out's of economics and socialism as a context in the history and future of the world we live in.
All the best,
Jamie.
