Communist University, the open, forthright, and topically diverse school of left-wing exchange and discussion is being hosted this year at Goldsmiths University, the Surrey House site.

Unlike other lefty political schools CU is a place where differing views contend and clash openly. There are no deathly dull hagiographic sessions put on to show fidelity to some spurious sect 'tradition', and members of the CPGB, as well as comrades of all other organisations and none, can air their views and argue and debate freely with one another.

As always the event will seek to deal with topics of particular current relevance to the left as part of a striving for political clarity among Marxists, but also on subject matter that is timeless in its value to all communists.

This year's accommodation at Goldsmiths will be in en-suite rooms, food will no doubt be communally prepared as always at CU as a small effort to foster a culture of rotation and mutual effort. Pre-figuration ain't just for anarchists!

So come along to the most invigorating and open political school on the left and have your say.

Prices and further details tbc...watch this space.

Allow me to speculate;

Moshe Machover on Israel-Palestine
Yasmine Mather on Iran / The Middle East
Jack Conrad on the left
Mike McNair on History/Philosophy
Chris Knight on Radical Anthropology
Hillel Ticktin on State Capitalism

What's the the deadline for confirming speakers. I might be interested in doing a talk.

That's a fair guess. But they haven't announced yet a final agenda.

Something to note, attendees at this years Communist University in Goldsmiths college will have the opportunity to visit the SPGB exhibition 'The Socialist Party and the First World War' (http://www.worldsocialism.org/spgb/event/socialist-party-and-first-world-war-exhibition-london-11am-5pm-both-days) at 52 Clapham High Street, London, SW4 7UN as it is a few miles down the road.
During CU, this exhibition will be on 16, 17 and 23 August. Sunday 17 August in particular will be a good one to go to as there is a meeting on the topic 'The Left and the First World War' at 3pm in the same venue

Has there been any sort of schedule released? Does anyone know what topics will be discussed on what days? I'll be in the UK near the end of August and would potentially be interested in stopping by.

I was thinking the same thing, nothing obvious on CPGB site or Weekly Worker site though about a schedule. Maybe in tomorrows Weekly Worker?

As predicted today's carries some details (http://weeklyworker.co.uk/worker/1019/communist-university-and-cash/)

We will be uploading onto the CPGB site a more or less finished timetable for this year’s week-long event. That said, we are also at the stage of haggling with various confirmed speakers - it’s always the case that some comrades have to come back to us with tweaks to the times and/or dates of the sessions they have signed up for. This is fiddly, so comrades should check the website right up to the last minute if there are specific sessions you have your eye on.
As a taster for the full agenda, here are some of the speakers and their subjects of this year:
Hillel Ticktin (editor of Critique) assesses World War I as a symptom of capitalism’s systemic decline; Camilla Power (Radical Anthropology Group) speaks on early communism and its resonances in the 21st century; Mike Macnair dissects the politics of Left Unity’s ‘safe spaces’ policy; Yassamine Mather talks on women-only quotas, positive discrimination and the fight for women’s equality; The Bolsheviks and their record of organising amongst women is examined by Anne McShane; Moshé Machover will open a discussion on the possibilities of the further Balkanisation of the Middle East in the aftermath of the ‘Arab spring’; Paul Demarty presents the intriguingly titled session, ‘The politics of lying’; and German comrades from Assoziation Dämmerung discuss the problems of ‘animal liberation’.

I like the labour party one, the one on communism in the 21st century, assessment of school and free speech and left unity.

I wish I could attend this.
