Hello Everyone,

*im sorry if this is stupid, im just really upset*

First off i would like to begin by saying i have been reading a lot of your psts, and i find it very comforting here on Che lives.

I am 15 years old (today actually)..and i know many of you might think im ridiculous for being this young..but i am very much into politics (dont worry i say - down with capitalism) and i express my views politely and at the right time.

In my civics class, which has been over for a week or so..i was asked my opinion on numerous occasions. I gave it, bluntly, and debated my way through. Pretty soon, the teacher is calling me names (Ms. Castro, Ms. Mark, Karl, Commie) and smirking. My mother is also a teacher there and he said to her "do you know your raising a communist daughter?"

Pretty soon i have my parents, and many people yelling at me..for saying anti-american, pro-leftisit ideas. I got in a huge fight over having a che picture in my locker- which i REFUSE to take down (i know its silly, but it inspires me)..and i dont know what to do..

My parents are upset at me, my teachers are, and im geing harassed constantly..

but i think " i should be able to expresss my ideals, just as another (ignorant) patriot..i shouldnt compramise my self for anyone"

*silence is defeat*

and i was wondering if any of you could help me..or give me strenght..or share ideals.

Much love
*besos*

Well Firstly... Happy Birthday!!!

Not ridiculous at all, being 15 and into politics. I was reading papers by about the age of 10, and I was a "lefty" (though not communist) not long after that! I'm sure most people here shared this interest at your age.

I, personally, would take "Mr. Castro" or "Mr. Che" (note the Mr!!!) as a compliment - I wouldn't let it bother you. Also, do keep the Che poster in your locker there - never give up!! My parents don't particularly like me being a Commie, but they respect the fact that it's my decision. Try telling this to them; I'm sure they'll understand!

Everyone here (barring some nutters in the "Opposing Ideologies" forum) is a "lefty" so you'll find no shortage of support; hang in there, the revolution is inevitable!

Welcome to Che-Lives by the way.

Dont comprise yourself for anyone, you shouldnt have to.

Civics class, grade 10, ugh. I didnt really expect much of it myself considering it wasnt written about politics in mind, but more for "Go :insert country: We`re the best!" Then you learn about how the country is all nice and capitalistic and thats how it works. Therefore you must go through high school, get a degree, make lots of money and have a SUV and a house. and a dog.

Fight the good fight i sae. I think its great that you`re outspoken in your class and around. Maybe you should try and look around your skool and look for like-minded indivuals for support to? surely theres others like you in your skool.

Personally, state your agruements as factually and as logically and as calmy as possible. And if you run out of rebukes to their questions, just come here and seek advice. Like what extactly are they saying?

anyway, just like you said, you have the right to express yourself as much as they have their right winged ones. Just remeber to defend yourself but at the same time *not* saying that they shouldnt express themselves either.

good luck

Personally I think your all wrong, you seem to have a lot of misplaced idealism, Capitalists cant be reasoned with, they can only be destroyed. By standing up you are making yourself a target, it is far easier to crush you than it is to crush Iraq, and they will. Ignorance is a very powerful force today, your teachers and parents could be issuing self fulfilling prophesies. The most mediocre of minds can rise to the highest office, there are plenty of empty cells to keep a mind like yours contained. You will never get them to understand, all they will understand is that you are a threat to them, and since in the real world the Star of Capitalism continues to fall, they will find it far easier to destroy you than it is to defeat the rest of the World. You are fighting a battle you cant win, so why bother. We are winning in the real world, you biggest concern should be surviving the World of Bullshit that has been created for you to live in, it is collapsing all around us, but in it's death throes it can be very dangerous, so dont let it take you with it.

wow, that's a dowener

I have to agree a little, people are ignorant, but that means you should fight all the harder, argue more, because if you can get even one more person to think, to really consider what's going on, then you've made an impact

"it is far easier to crush you than it is to crush Iraq, and they will" Looter

standing up for what is right, upholding principles, can never be crushed, Che himself showed us that

Tell them they would be better suited living under Saddam Hussein.
You can express yourself any way you want to as long as it does not infringe on anyone else's "rights"
And the next time they call you any names (including the teacher)....just call them names right back. Bushleaguer, conformists, brainwashed, O'reilley youth...etc...
I say stoop to their level because there is no way to reason with them.

Keep wrkin on you debating/arguing/violent fighting skills and you should do OK. From my experience if your teacher is someone so ignorant to call you names like you say they're probably not too intelligent, and lack some very basic knowledge. Any capitalist who knows his stuff knows that their is at least a case to argue in favour of communism, those who just belive it's downright stupid are downright fools. My point here is argue with you teacher until he/shecan't find an answer.

It's not unusual to be into politics at your age, on the contrary, it very encouraging. Just keep learning more (don't just stick to learning leftist ideas) and you should do well.

Don't listen to reactionary bullshit like that Marcelina, go your way and find allies, in your school and outside.

Where are you from Rebecca?

* silence is no defeat, btw *

Malte: you continually use the word "reactionary" wrong, for I think you mean "pretentious" or "vacuous" bullshit.

reactionary is an anti-progressive reaction, or extremely conservative, which this chap is all but.

No, I use the word perefctly right. "Reactionary" also means to be in favor of the ruling class and the status quo, which is totally the case when someone advices a 15 year old to stop her leftist political comitment.

why, wanting to crush the ruling class is doing them a favour? But i'm not all to sure what this Looter is saying. All I know is that being a "looter", suggests favouring uprising, which is all but reactionary. But maybe that is a little too far-fetched. I was simply under the impression you meant something else

Welcome becka,

The revolution needs all us youth, and youd be surprised with how many people are your age (not to say im much older), the youth are becoming more radicalised, and its important we maintain this momentum, and direct the radicalism towards revolution based on strong foundation of theory and understanding.

If you join the struggle and fight for your ideals, prepare to to sacrifice time and energy, but we all know it will be worth the effort, a hundred times over.

Hope you enjoy reading the posts, and hope they give you a lot to think about

yours in struggle

a piece of advice, dont look to political parties now, look at whats around you, develope your understanding of how society operates, read the classics of marx, bakunin, lenin and many more, and once you believe you have a grasp, then commit yourself to action

i think people would agree with me that 2 good sources are:

www.indymedia.org (for news)
www.marxists.org (for theory)

by the way, what part of the world are you from?

I think you are an incredibly courageous young woman!

It's true, the more out-spoken that you are, the more crap people will try to dump on you.

As far as authority in capitalist society is concerned, you "do not have the right to express your ideals" unless you are pro-capitalist.

But pay no mind to those who suggest that "they can crush you a lot easier than they can crush Iraq".

For, in fact, it seems they can't crush Iraq, try as hard as they can. :D

And as someone who went through the same crap in high school that you're going through now...I can assure you that they can't crush a really determined rebel either. They can make things pretty hellish...that's true. They do their best to make life seem utterly hopeless...so that people will surrender and bow down to them.

Sadly, all too often that works...and people do surrender and bow down to them.

But it doesn't always work; for reasons that we don't know, there are some whose rebellion gets stronger and stronger with every passing year.

You sound like you're on the beginning of that road, Rebecca. As one who has traveled on it for more than 40 years, I can tell you: it will be one hell of a journey...and you'll be amazed when you look back four or five decades from now how much fun it all was.

And that doesn't even count the chance that you might actually get to be part of a real revolution...something that is quite possible in this century.

Welcome!

i read your post today, so happy birthday... i know it's two days later, but...

it is great that you have your own opinion, it is great, and it is also very good that you defend it. everyone has the right to have their own opinion and taste. it is their own choise and because of that i think that no one should tell them that it is wrong. in that case there isn't really a term of right and wrong; the differences are only in way that people see the same thing. <_<
i kinda understand your parents; they want the only the best for you, but your teacher is really stupid! sorry for that, but he doesn't have any right to tell you what's the best and what you should think (like i said before) ! you should continue with your resistance because, in the end, your conviction is harmless.
don't take that che's picture off!

i don't know what it's like in america and other countries, but in my country we've never really learned what communism is really about - we've always had shitty definitions that made no sense and you could only learn by heart. because of that i alweys thought that communism issomething bad. i've realised that that communism is good just i'd found out who che was and what was he fighting for...

and about your age, i'm also 15 like you but it doesn't really matter how old are we (i think). it's your mature, knowledge and understanding that matters! ;)
so, keep on fighting for your beliefs and never give up!!! :) :) :)

:hammer: good luck :hammer:

:) You are an extremely COURAGEOUS girl (woman), keep up with your views and opinions. I went through the same crap when I was in high school, our principal loved to call myself and my siblings "commies"!

It is very difficult but realistically, you will be okay and just play the game to get through school!!! You will come out the winner!

Maybe ask your teacher, for me, how he can say you live in a FREE country yet people can not express opposing ideologies!

Take care!

P.S. Happy Belated Birthday!

Let your flame chase away the darkness that blinds those brainwashed people. Your political beliefs are your own! Do not let them take away your freedom to be who you want to be and to beleive what you want to belive!

Hey, and welcome.

I know how you feel (sorta, but my parents and teachers were a little more accepting than yours were). It can be tough, as we all know. This is a great place to come and re- energize.

Stick by your two comrades. It helps.

it's a little late, but... happy b-day comrade!
i always say this: never be ashamed of who you are.
always argue your way out of everything, regardless of the odds. for example, today the school had a "random" backpack check, and they found my mp3 player. they threatened to take it away. i reasoned with them that they are represenatives of the state, and i am no terrorist. so, if they are represenatives of the state, then they must follow state laws. they agreed. i said the 4th amendment says: one must have a search warrant to search for illegal items. since they had no search warrant nor was the mp3 player illegal, they couldn't take it. they bitterly agreed.
my teacher grinned and called me the neo-socrates. :D :D
even though the odds were against me, i didn't give up and neither should you
if people say your a commie, just reply: damn straight. im a commie, what are you gonna do about it? oink like the cappie pig you are? :hammer: :marx: :engles:
