I was never really exposed to much gambling as a kid. Where I lived the only things were either the legal realm of bingo or pull-tabs and that kind of thing, or small time card games which sometimes had pretty high stakes due to how much money was flying around during the fishing industry's boom days, or the illegal realm of cockfighting, which was pretty big in my town b/c of the significant Filipino population, cockfighting still being a pretty big cultural thing in the Phillipines (although a ton of people of all different backgrounds got involved in it, of course, gambling is a lot like drugs I think in that it crosses all ethnic and class backgrounds).
When I was in Las Vegas I tried gambling for a bit but just felt that my money was wasted on better things, and never really got into it...

Nothing wrong with gambling, far as I'm concerned.
I get the fears of gambling that come from things like gambling addiction, but any other objections to gambling games comes off as so much moralist piffle, akin to alcohol prohibition.
I WILL say however that state-run lotteries are basically humungous scams. I live in a state which famously has several State lottery games of its own. They try to sell it to the people that the money spent on lottery tickets goes towards funding public education.
It's BULLSHIT.
