in short, a while back a leader of the marxist (!) urban guerrilla group 17th november didnt return from prison leave and published a video vowing a return to armed struggle, under this pretext the greek state has stepped up its assault on the anarchist movement, its individuals and its infrastructures, the following are some recent articles, all from the occupied-london collective;

February 3. Yet another date, the same court-room; the only thing changing being the faces of the judges who swap around and throw years of incarnation. Seven anarchists with different starting points, in a common struggle. Seven boxes full of charges: weapon carrying, terrorist organisation, robberies, arsons… And the double propeller of authority, the DNA.
On the one hand, the validity of science and on the other, the charges handed out by the cops inside cell structures, ready to turn into indisputable proofs of guilt. Science, in other words, open-handedly offers its tools to its boss – and authority, in turn, uses them freely.
And some armed negations… Conscious decisions against mass society of the repeated everyday, of accumulated repression, of imposition and of “objective reality”. Anarchist struggle through a mosaic of ideas, of revolutionary discourse, conceptualisations, but also through a mosaic of different and multiform actions that give meaning to the clash with authority. The arrows in our quivers are endless; there is no limit for as long as we gaze upward, united – nothing except for the earth beneath our feet. We must keep on daring, combining all means. to be in constant movement, destroying any rotten statues of ideology, ready to become the solution to the rigidities of the past.
“Action”, shouts the present condition we live through, at every moment.
“Destruction”, let us shout in return, and organise the unmapped plan in order to face up to its ruins.

Acropolis police station in Athens shuts down as police claim “vulnerability to attacks by the anarchists” (http://blog.occupiedlondon.org/2014/01/26/acropolis-police-station-in-athens-shuts-down-as-police-claim-vulnerability-to-attacks-by-the-anarchists/)

The police station of Acropolis in central Athens had been one of the most notorious in the city centre, with repeated cases of abuse and torture by the police there reported over the years:

On May 11th, 2008 the then 24-year old Nikos Sakellion was beaten by four policemen on Anaxagora street and fell in a coma. The cops abandoned him, but a video shot by a passer-by proved their guilt. The witness who shot the video was accused with lying in court, while Nikos’ father continued his legal struggle to vindicate his son. The cops claimed the death was caused by self-inflicted choking, and not by any beating. Five years later, the trial took place, finding the police innocent. The second degree trial is currently under way, with the next date set for January 30.
On December 23, 2010, the Senegalese street vendor Jo Usman reported he was beaten by cops serving at the Acropolis police station, who punched him in the stomach, resulting in his hospitalisation.
Six days later, another compatriot of his, Jili Daou, was arrested by cops on Ermou street (note: the main commercial street of Athens), who beat him up and transfered him to the Acropolis police station, where they continued to torture him, to beat and swear at him, while degrading him and his genitals.
Only two days later, cops of the same police station continued their work, arresting and torturing the 30-year old Chillean Pedro Navaro, sending him to the hospital, injured.

The Acropolis police station had been repeatedly targeted and attacked by anarchists – see, for example:

According to the police themselves, the Acropolis police department is closing down with immediate effect (and its 150 police staff are transferred to nearby police stations, in Syntagma, Exarcheia and Omonoia) because the building was “unsuitable”, as it was vulnerable to repeated attacks by anarchists.

Scores of anarchists’ houses raided in Athens and Thessaloniki – assembly call, Athens Polytechnic, 8pm tonight (http://blog.occupiedlondon.org/2014/01/28/scores-of-anarchists-houses-raided-in-athens-and-thessaloniki-assembly-call-athens-polytechnic-8pm-tonight/)

Over the past few days, and under the pretext of the non-return to prison of Christodoulos Xiros, a convicted November 17th member, police have launched a witch-hunt against well-known anarchists in Athens and in Thessaloniki, raiding their houses and conducting arrests.
In response, an assembly has been called to inform about the recent incidents and to discuss a collective response: Tuesday, January 28th, 8pm at the Gini auditorium, Athens Polytechnic.

At least 26 anarchists’ houses raided in Athens (plus more in Thessaloniki) as the antiterrorist unit’s witch-hunt against the anarchist scene in Grece continues (http://blog.occupiedlondon.org/2014/01/31/at-least-26-anarchists-houses-raided-in-athens-plus-more-in-thessaloniki-as-the-antiterrorist-units-witch-hunt-against-the-anarchist-scene-in-grece-continues/)

From Tuesday, January 21st, until the evening of Thursday 30th of January, 2014, 26 raids in houses of anarchist comrades have been recorded in the wider Athens area.
Out of these 26 comrades, 8 have so far been arrested and charged with misdemeanours. Of these, 5 have been sentenced to convictions varying between 5 and 16 months, while two have also been handed an additional fine of 600 euros, under the charge of “weapon possession” and “disobedience”. The 6th comrade is on trial on the 5th of February (the case was suspended in order for the police’s criminological research unit to pose an expert opinion on a confiscated item), the 7th comrade was given a court date and the 8th one is on trial today, January 31st.

Thousands march in Athens against the recent raids of Anarchists’ houses by the police (http://blog.occupiedlondon.org/2014/02/06/thousands-march-in-athens-against-the-recent-raids-of-anarchists-houses-by-the-police/)

Thousands of people march -under rain- in the centre of Athens against the state of emergency that Greek Police and the minister of Police Nicos Dendias are trying to implement against the Anarchists. A few weeks ago Christodoulos Xiros the member of the communist armed struggle group ’17November’ escaped from Korydalos prison. Since then the police started a witch hunt against Anarchists supposedly looking for Xiros. At least 26 houses of Anarchists have been raided so far, with the police and the attorenys general destroying the homes they attack.

State’s offensive against anarachists continues, Tasos Theofilou sentenced to 25 years in prison without any evidence (http://blog.occupiedlondon.org/2014/02/07/states-offensive-against-anarachists-continues-tasos-theofilou-sentenced-to-25-years-in-prison-without-any-evidence/)

The Greek courts (following the verdict of corporate media that had decided since 2012) sentenced today the Anarchist Tasos Theofilou to 25 years in prison for a bank roberry in the island of Paros that he never did. One of the strongest evidence used by the court was the fact that Theofilou when arrested in Athens had a backpack writing the name of Paros island on it. So although no witness recognised him, no fingertips were found (the robber was not wearing gloves) while there are several people who testified that Theofilou was with them when the roberry took place, he is sent to prison.
