From the Anarchist News Service...
Three fire bombs (molotovs) were thrown at the House of Joe Hill in Gävle, Sweden, on Sunday morning, January 18th. In the building there is a Joe Hill Museum - the famous syndicalist singer and agitator was born here - and an office of the Swedish syndicalist trade union SAC. Miraculously the fire died down and mostly caused damage from smoke. The area of the city is an old part of Gävle and most houses and buildings are made of wood and lie side by side. A real fire would have
resulted in a catastrophe for the whole quarter in a couple of minutes.
The nazi website Info-14 has written about the attack and says more attacks will come on syndicalists. And this was not the only nazi
attack in the past month. On December 20th windows were smashed at the Joe Hill House. On 21st of December nazis attacked a meeting at the
office of Malmö Local Federation. A Union Banner was stolen. On the 23rd windows were smashed at the office of Sandviken Local Federation,
a small town close to Gävle City. On the 25th windows were smashed at the office of Gothenburg Local Federation - and on New Years' Eve the office was hit by a firework, but the fire died down and caused limited damage. Other parts of the Labour Movement have been attacked too, and besides this there have been threats and violence against people from leftist movements.
Most of the attacks are against syndicalist locals and it seems to be a campaign against our Union from nazis close to the Björn Söderberg murderers. The Police do not take seriously the threats from the Right Wing Extremists. On the 6th of December up to 2,000 nazis and fascists
marched in Salem, a suburban town near Stockholm. This was the biggest Nazi demonstration in Sweden since World War II. The Police brutally attacked an antifascist demonstration on the same day and a lot of
people were injured. Extreme Right Wing political parties had a break-through in the last election to the Parliament in September 2002.
It looks like we all should be worried about the escalation of this Right Wing Extremist violence and terrorism.
