Some time in my life, preferably earlier than later, I want to leave America and live in another country. I absolutely hate it here. What are some great countries to live in, in terms of quality of life, job opportunity etc.

TBH what ever problems you have with the US you'll probably encounter in about anywhere else you'll go too. So be careful when you make that jump.

What specific qualities are you looking for in a place to live? Personally I've decided that while I hate the governance of America, it has some awesome stuff to do outdoors in many parts, and also I'm too lazy to learn another language.

^there are plenty of other places where you could skate by with just English and maybe a rudimentary knowledge of whatever else is spoken, if that

Don't take this the wrong way, but Americans complaining about how bad the US is can be pretty grating. Some Americans think the country is special because it's especially great, others because it's especially bad; maybe it actually isn't all that special? What is that, like some kind of extension of American exceptionalism? Millions of people are trying to get into the US while you're complaining about how shit it is. I don't want to make this a political point (because I think that would be stupid), it's just a bit annoying sometimes is all. But don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want to live in that hell hole and cultural wasteland, but I wouldn't want to live in Milton Keynes either for similar reasons.

True but would most of those places have better nature and more reptiles and amphibians than America? I mean arguably Australia, but I'd be so far away from everyone I know then.

o well this is ok I guess

I've felt like this before, but I think it makes more sense if you already have a place in mind that you'd prefer over the US. I used to flirt with the idea of moving to Berlin since I speak basic German (even though pretty much everyone there speaks English) and I loved it when I was there. I also thought about Norway and Argentina because they provide free university for foreigners.

The process of immigrating is usually pretty hard though and you normally have to have a legit reason too, like a job offer. You can't just be like "oh, I got bored of America". I also have to agree with whatever singularity that people who go on about how shitty the US is, as if other countries are some kind of paradise on earth, are generally pretty annoying.

On another note, I kind of don't want to leave because I'd feel like I'd be "abandoning the struggle", so to speak. I know a few people who say it'd be nice to move somewhere less reactionary, but I think if radicals just run away then it will always be reactionary here, in fact it might get worse.

you can have my place in Germany, I applied for a Greencard 2015 anyway.

In case it doesn't work out, would some of you guys marry me? I'm not willing to cook or wash for your lazy ass or any other unfeminist stuff, but I'm quite pretty, that's all that matters, huh.

I know you're American, so you have an unrealistic view of the world, but unfortunately you can't just decide to go and live in another country and then that be fact. Not unless you have a dual passport.

cultural wasteland? the same fuckin' bullshit applies to the UK as applies to the USA. What's different? A bunch of people concerned about money, careers, fuckin', drugs and/or alcohol, family bullshit, pop culture bilge, etc? what the fuck is different? gimme a break.

Tbh marriage as citizenship is the greatest loophole in history. Idk, Russia is pretty shit, I'd go with like Canada or maybe like New Zealand or Australia.

To hell with any place that isn't a "cultural wasteland". I also hate the U.S. of A. and want desperately to get out, but not because I think somewhere else will necessarily be any better. I've been in a long-distance relationship for six years and want to move in with my significant other in another country, and have wanted this for years, but any such migration takes a lot of money if you can't get transferred by some shitty job. We can't even use the marriage loophole to facilitate the process because it seems to require having met in person before....

I know, that was kinda my point tbh. I reckon there are cool places to live in the US, just as there are in any country.

Seattle and Pheonix sound like fucking awesome cities in the USA, I wish i was in one of those cities in stead. My area just depresses me in a bad way anymore, so many damn memories, and current things that make life here just absolute shit.

I pretty much hate the US as a country, but the people there are so nice and anglophilic that I can't help but have some affection for them.

Perhaps we should attempt to create alternative ways of living within this country rather than trying to abandon it. Why don't we at least try to put some measure of voluntary collectivism into practice? There are many intentional communities throughout the US, if that's what your into, and you can always join with like-minded friends and comrades to start your own.

You need a skill. When I was young people would have said that you need a trade. I have lived and worked in seven different countries. I first moved abroad to work when I was 15, and worked in construction in Germany. I became a skilled bricklayer, and for many years managed to make a living from it, in various different countries.

I was pretty drunk when I posted this. I don't think that the USA (or the UK for that matter) is a cultural wasteland, though. A lot of the stuff that is rammed down the public's throat I can take or leave, but there's a lot of worthwhile stuff out there too IMO. How couldn't there be in a country of 300+ million.

Hey, that's what Lee Harvey Oswald said, and you know what happened to him!

In all seriousness though, it's almost impossible to know if you'll like the place for the rest of your life. I live in a small Canadian city, and honestly, it's not bad. I know people here, I know where things are. I've got a support network really.

I figure life is hard enough at this stage (if you're a young adult) - you need all the opportunities you can get. Settling in another country would make things like 100 times harder in terms of education, work, social life etc. I don't know, I figure I'm just getting my head around that stuff in this country - you'd be back to square one if you moved away.

That's me though; If you're a bit more adventurous, more sure of yourself, then by all means, it would definitely be interesting

And of course, some countries offer free education, good benefits, etc. Watch out for those things

Moving away from home always sounds ideal until you do it.
It was a worth while experience for me, but a lot of the time, you just end up back home. All I ever wanted to do was get out, and once I left, I realized how much other places sucked, and the conveniences of living where you know stuff.
