(m not looking for rap or jazz)
why?
I love rap and jazz.
But, no, I don't know of many bands with a leftist message.

i have no idea of there political views but what about NOFX

I never read much into RATM, why are they gone?
I suggest Refused, The (International) Noise Conspiracy, Reagan Youth, Evolution Control, and Manic Street Preachers (of course).
(Not liberal though, they're all communist/anarchist)
I wouldn't rule out rap and jazz, I did that for a while but now I realize there are some pretty good rap and jazz that isn't at all like that mainstream stuff. (i.e. Dead Prez)

Primus has a few good political songs... but they're a bit of an... "Acquired taste" if you know what I mean.
Too Many Puppies is good, American Life, Those Damned Blue Collar Tweekers could be seen as a pro-working class song.
Radiohead has some good ones, too.

Radiohead, ha dont make me puke. The only message however vaugue you can get from there songs is a tinge of anti-corpaertism but thats a joke as they had an entire acre sizeed tent dedicated to there merchandizing sect at glasto 03, they are hipocrits and sing about crap. The bends was a god almum though.

System of a Down's alright...but i think Thrice is better.
Check out Thrice, NOFX, or even Matt Good to some extent. They all protest in their own ways...

I second that. One of the greatest political bands ever.
Also maybe Pennywise or Bad Religion.

I would have to say Korn and System of a Down have political messages.
Has anyone heard of the Brazilian band Blind Pigs? I am beginning to really like this band. I don't speak Portuguese but what the hell. They have a song called Sete de Septembro. My friend from Brazil says that it's about how Brazil's Independence Day isn't real and all. Well, maybe you can call that political too.

pennywise is good. bad religion, anti-flag, rise against, AFI, and dropkick murphys are all leftist i think. and then as far as old stuff and folk goes, practically everybody is leftist. ani difranco, arlo guthrie, john gorka, odetta, bob dylan, joan baez, etc.

Korn have been around since the early 90s. And Jonathan Davis is one of the greatest singers ever, and I don't even like Korn that much, I simply recognise that they are very talented, particularly Jonathan Davis. Actually, the band would be nothing without him, the instrumentals are not good really.
Sepultura are very political, quite popular with working-class people in Brazil. Although I don't like that kind of metal very much.
The title of this thread does not seem right to me. The majority of people or groups in the arts are liberal, its the nature of art. Bands, movie directors, actors, writers and are disproportionately liberal. What is being looked at here is whether they are more left-wing than the average band.

The origins of nu-metal are in the early 90s not that I'm saying Korn are nu-metal.

Anti-Flag, Bad Religion, Pennywise, Propagandhi, KMFDM... they were all mentioned earlier, and I would just like to second them.
System of a Down is quite political as well, though I dislike their sound.
How about Soulfly? They have a certain, fairly anarchistic outlook, though I do not know of too many overtly political songs.

Has anyone mentioned the Manics?
Although they're on the way out too, not having released any new stuff in years...
Songs like "Freedom of speech won't feed my children" and "A design for life" are worth a mention. But hey, there's nothing wrong with the old bands!! Go look out some earlier political stuff, it's just as good!!

I agree, I am surprised the Manics werent up sooner.
If you tolerate this which is possibly the only catchy Spanish Cival War song there ever will be. Plus they meet Castro.

Errthey are recording a new album... now.
They also released a greatest hits album, and a B-Side album in the past 2 years.
And they rock, especially in generation terrorists, Gold Against the Soul, The Holy Bible (a classic album no leftist should be without), Everything Must Go, This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours, Know Your Enemy, Forever Delayed and Lipstick Traces.
The manics rock.
