Seriously, how am I supposed to tackle that and have a decent life? Humanity keeps producing great minds, thinkers and they keep coming up with new ideas. All of them also refer to the previous ideas. Now that is okay for a century or two. Early enlightement thinkers did not have that much "references" to deal with. 19th century people mostly referred to these key enlightenment thinkers. 20th century referred to these two groups and then there is a shitstorm as academia is established all over the world. Among zillions of subjects there are zillions of works to read and its not getting any fewer.
I also do not think we should "dismiss" the early writers. Like one today can be a Marxist without reading a single work of Marx. But there are a lot of problems that comes with this. You have to read a lot of interpretations which prevents you from doing your own synthesis and original "idea".
Like, seriously, what is going to happen after a century if things go the way they are? What will those people read?
This hit me today so hard as I was collecting stuff to read for my (just) 2000 word paper. I collected so many stuff to read opening tabs downloading PDFs. In addition to that there is stuff that I want to read independently of my "studies" that are at the same time relevant to it.
I felt like blowing my brains.
When I have those "read all day" moments I become very depressive. It makes me realize that life is short, I am just one human being and there is a lot to do to become a "recognized" individual.
It certainly is not easy either given that there is so much amazing work out there that are sometimes very hard to grasp. What if I die in a stupid accident? I will have literally nothing with all the brain-rape I have done. And then you go out on the street and everyone knows everything anyways. As a person who reads a lot and knows the "other sides" to the stories you become very skeptical in dogmatically pushing your beliefs through other people's throats. Sometimes I find myself getting stuck, not even being able to explain something I have read zillions of times and thought a lot over.
Give me some feels!!
