We all remmeber the McCarthy era. Like it was yesterday. Everybody was a commie spy. You called communists pinko's and if you didn't watch football you were strung up and dragged through the streets. The doctrine of deceit and treachery, double speak and ahtred were used to control the population through very obvious and unshielded fear tac tics. However, as one of the main points of McCarthy's doctrine was FREEDOM, this era must have had trouble defending this notion as it's application upon a so called FREE society must have left that society either feeling gullible, stupid or cheated.

My position is that this era, as its source was clearly established, evolved into modern applications of the same principle. All used to control the population. Like all the elements were simply tweaked and made into a smoother operating disguise while the penchants remained identicle. Of course, in order for a disguise to work properly, it should least resemble that which is being disguised. So, the fact that we are not in fact free must be disguised so that we believe that we are free. Even though we are not.

I have, oh, about one hundred and seventy six thousand, two hundred and twenty nine examples. If anybody who understands what I'm talking about wants to contribute anything that they might prove this theory, that McCarthyISM is in full, and MORE functional operation than ever before, let me know what you got.

of coarse modern mcCarthyism still exists, i mean look at the war on terror? their arresting and detaining people who are suspected terrorists. Instead of communists its terrorists, America just wants excuses so they can attack anyone who has at least a 1 percent margine of threat towards their government.

I wouldn't say it's McCarthyism.

McCarthyism was a very specific form of social control.

The ideas of social "unamericanism" effectively were based in conceptions of how an "American" should behave, and that any other behavior demonstrated collusion with the ideological enemey.

Todays new and improved method of control is that of the "terrorism" paradigm.

In 1950, if you boycotted an American company it showed you were not supporting the US and therefore "unamerican."
If you boycott that same company today, you are engaging in "economic terrorism."

In the end it achieves the same result, but the method is different.

It's subtle, but it's there.
