Of course this are anti-communists source but there is a lot of proof, Chinese traders, photos and all defectors say all the same. The conclusion is that nearly all Koreans participate in some trade, DVD's and USB's with foreign media are widespread and can be openly bought at private markets. There is also nostalgia for the Kim-il sung era because then the state provided everyone enough food.

This reminds me of how a lot of former ‘communist’ countries had black markets and stuff.

Yeah, Japanese, South Korean, and American films are smuggled in all the time from what I've learned.

Also, it's no surprise to me that the people are nostalgic for Kim-il Sung when all they have to compare him to are his son and grandson, who are/were nothing but traitors to the working class. I can't wait until the people of North Korea decide to rid their country of the Kim family's monopoly on power.

Market isn't possible to be eliminated in any economy. Even in the environment without money there will be a form of marker called barter. Then it isn't any strange that North Korea has its market.

What exactly is a market?, i thought it was where you exchange goods or whatever but i think i heard someone saying that you can have a market without exchange, or maybe i dont remember that well what he meant.

It's not like NK is communist anyway so why should we care? I'm fact in that situation a market would be incredibly beneficial to many people, as it has been used as a means to escape.

You do realize that economies can exist even without barter, don't you?

Undoubtedly there can't exist market without exchange. But there can't be world without exchange. There are many definitions of market but common in them that it is a place more and less physical (world market tells about world, but not whole world in every area is place to exchange) of exchanging goods. And money are not necessary for market to be. We can have a price 1 pen for 3 oranges. And even when there will be distribution centers instead of shops to distribute without a money, there always be such an exchange (red pen for blue one, for example) done for the sake of convenience not to wait for reaction of distribution center. And the place where such exchange occurs is called market.
