Hello everyone! You can call me Sythan and I'm from California. I'm an (almost) 18 year old High School Senior who's is deeply interested in politics and social issues.
Since I'm never very good with introductions, and the sticky on this forum gave me some questions, I'll use them!
Where are you from, whats the leftist scene there like?
I was born and raised in the eastern half of the Bay Area of Northern California, where I currently live.
Since it's California, there's quite a big liberal scene. Leftist? Some elements exist but not something that you could completely call "Leftist" I don't suppose. At least not in my locality.
What are your political ideas, if any?
Equality, solidarity, justice. All my ideas compiled into a three-worded phrase.
How did you become a leftist?
I wouldn't say that I "became" a leftist, rather it was something that I discovered I already was.
When growing up, my parents valued intellectual thought and the ability to think for oneself. To never take anything at face value and to always question and be a leader, never one who followed blindly. They also taught me the values of compassion, justice, love, and solidarity with those less fortunate and those who were being discriminated against for whatever reason.
When I was elementary and middle school, I had no concept of "Left" or "Right" or conservative or liberal, at least not until 7th grade when my political ideas began to take shape. I abhorred the exploitation of workers, the discrimination my fellow humans faced in all forms, and the oppression felt by the working class.
For myself, I believe that leftism was something I always had in me, but could never put it into a label until I got older. But if it was a conscious choice, of course I would choose it
If you have any more questions, just ask! Have a great day!
