i have an assignment to read a novel in a month......my two unread books are way to long to read in just a month so i pulled out the copy of One Day in the life of Ivan Denisovich that my dad bought me.

He thinks i should hear all sides to communism instead of leftist literature...and i agree...i havent started yet but do you guys have any opinions about it?

An interesting caricature of the Stalin era. I found it very depressing, though.

I agree wholeheartedly. Here's a short synopsis of the book from the main character's perspective.

They made us go out and work in the Siberian winter again today. It was really cold, especially since someone stole my socks. The guards were a real pain in the ass. Do they have to yell all the time? I came in and went to sleep. Man, life in a gulag isn't all it's cracked up to be.
