A lot of people seem to think taht the Stones are the greatest,a nd then a lot of people think they're over-rated. Where do you stand?

They're really good, I wouldn't say greatest, though.
They were never as good as Zeppelin and the Doors were a bit better so they aint the greatest but I would'nt mind if they won a poll to that effect.
Some good tunes but musically for an amazing band they can be a bit sloppy at times.

They are quie a bit overrated. Mick Jagger is a big wanker too. Keith Richards is the only thing they have going for them.

I believe I voted They're among the greatest bands.
To an average listener, only a few of their songs are very good. The rest is really an aquired taste. Or not, if you only want to dance, the songs have a really good rhythm.

I HATE "undercover of the night" but love street-fighting man, brown sugar, girl with far away eyes. Sticky fingers and Some girls are their best albums, but forty licks is a great compilation. I think they're good but not one of the greatest I reserve that monicker for artists like The Beatles, Nirvana, Bob Dylan, Radiohead and Johnny Cash.

I agree with you about all of thsoe except Nirvana and Radiohead.
Radiohead has some pretty good tunes, and they're a great band, but nowhere near the greats.
Nirvana is rather mediocre.

Overrated, man.
I'm sorry, but they rub me the wrong way somehow. I think there are better bands that you'd never even hear about. To me, Cream is infinitessimally better, but...

I go by who has the most anorexic looking drummer....and I think Ginger Baker takes the cake...then throws it up.

HAHAAHAA!!
Nice one, Hampton.
I agree that Cream is far better, and i suppose the two can be compared... somewhat.
But the Rolling Stones still fucking rock!

Rolling Stones have written some pretty god tunes over the years. My dad has greatest hits listen to it sometimes.

They're really over-rated. I'd say they're ok.

I like the guitar and rhythm section of Rolling Stones. That is to say, I would like the Rolling Stones a lot more if they kicked out Mick Jagger and got someone who didn't piss me off as much.
Also, I think Radiohead is better than the Rolling Stones.

The Rolling Stones, how much do I like them? Less and less each day and less and less as I see this topic rearing its ugly head.

well, i think lots of you guys are mixing apples and oranges. I was the only person who said they were the greatest (motions towards avatar). I just loved their bluesy stuff. If i had my way, every copy of the album "Dirty Work" would get burned in a large bonfire! But I loved sticky fingers, beggars banquet, let it bleed, exile on mainstreet. sure, they were sloppy, but the blues isn't exactly known for being air tight. it's the flaws that make the music, in my opinion. But I wouldn't compare the stones to say, nirvana (A band i'm only just getting into, love they're stuff so far) or hendrix, or the beatles. all the greats stand alone, they can't be compared. and if anyone is holding the stones back, it's that guitarist that replaced mick taylor. Thats where they lost me.
