My dad is a very conservative, republican idiot. He continually blasts me for my communistic views. He listens everyday, sometimes for hours on end, to those idiots on Fox bash all liberal ideas and glorify those ignorant republicans as if they were gods on earth. It just drives me up a wall, and I almost think he does it on purpose to irritate me. Fox couldn't tell an unbiased, unslanted truth about anything if their lives depended on it. They are most definately republican suck ups and butt kissers. Anyone else sick of the conservative bull crap put forth by these people? How do I deal with my dad on this issue?

My parents are the same way, they are also Bill O Reilly fanatics. I wouldn't waste time arguing with them, just keep learning.

I hate it when my dad lays into me about it. My mom, who was a big time democrat (no where near a communist or socialist though). Unfortunately she died unexpectedly back in April. She never ripped me like my dad. My dad, I think hates me for my views, and I told him that people like us, all of us young people in these capitalistic dictatorships, are the next rulers of this world. Times are changing, and people, especially the younger generation, are fed up with republicans and their stupid, oppressive, ignorant policies and these capitalists always taking from the common people to line their own pockets. My dad will find out the hard way someday when the socialist/communist people overthrow these greedy capitalists and totally redesign the system.

Bashing liberal ideas is a bad thing?
Fox is terrible, i agree with that. But is CNN and the other liberal networks any better? Fox, CNN, BBC, they're all terrible.

In fact, my theory is that liberal media and liberal policies (and by "liberal" I mean modern American liberalism) are more damaging than the ultra-reactionary trash of Fox news. At least Fox are honest when they say they hate workers and support measures that oppress the worker.
Hell, if all capitalists were like Rush Limbaugh, it wouldn't be too hard to convince people to abandon capitalism:grin:

Just keep reading. It's the best thing you can do for advancing your own politics. Fortunately, right-wing conservatism is a lot easier to falsify using simple facts and statistics than is pseudo-left liberalism.
Take note of what views your father hounds you on, find the information you need to demonstrate that his arguments are wrong (plenty of people here, including myself, would be happy to help with this), and study the heck out of that info.

I think that the anti-socialism thinking also exists in The Democratic Party, and even in centrist parties, in centrist progressive liberal movements, and even in alternative progressive news channels like "The Russia Today News Network". The other day I heard the moderator of Crosstalk "Peter Lavelle" claiming that "We don't want any Lenin and any bolshevik revolution in Russia"
I used to be a member of a Democratic Party health care Facebook group and I used to post articles about *The dictatorship of the proletariat* from many radical leftist news sites like http://www.marxist.com/ http://www.wsws.org http://www.socialistworker.org http://www.socialistaction.org and other radical leftist news websites and there was this kind of obsolete Democratic Party Hillary fan and she said she was going to call FBI and CIA for my marxist articles.
I also tried to spread communist ideology in The Green Party Facebook group and they made fun of me.
Look my friend, from my own point of view, the only way that poor americans, low-income americans, homeless americans, americans who eat from food-banks and food-stamps can support leftist communist parties is if the price of food becomes a lot more expensive. If most poor americans see real hunger in their lives, because most poor americans are very conformist people. And they can live happy with their shitty lives of just eating and doing nothing all day. They don't really need full medicare, jobs with high labor conditions (Like in Japan where many corporations include gyms, fitness centers for their employees).
It seems to me that most poor americans we see out there at Wal Marts, K-Marts and buying junk stuff at Thrifty stores are pretty happy with their shitty lowlives. (I don't understand how can most americans be so happy, so excited living a life with zero pleasures, zero theme parks, zero music concerts, zero movie theaters, zero vacation cruises, zero exciting college degrees, and freezing to death on the painful diabolical winter months, because using the heater is off-limits and banned for most poor americans, because electricity has become very expensive in this neoliberalism stage of capitalism. They don't use heaters so that they can have enough spare cash in their pockets for food which is more important than heater.
But despite the shitty life, the existential hell and existential hole, of living a life of just eating and nothing else, most poor americans do not really have a great desire, a great anxiety to get out of their shitty painful lowlives.
There has to be a real crazy desire to get out of misery and the painful hell that most poor americans live (about 60% of USA) in order to see the building of a super powerful revolutionary third party, and as a result of that, a destruction of the popularity, of the acceptance, of the support of the masses toward both traditional parties (The Democratic Party and the republican party)
Many leftists in America claim that all poor americans and most americans already hate Democrats and Republicans, and that Obama, Bush, Mitt Romney and Hillary Clinton are hated and that pretty soon all americans will vote for the green party or any other third party.
That is a utopian thinking, you will see how in 2016 the zombies, the sheeple, the mind-controlled slaves of USA (the majority of americans) will religiously vote for the Democratic Party and the republican party. Something has to give !!

But if it weren't for Fox News, who would keep us updated on which towns are imposing sharia law on their citizens?
Seriously, though, all cable "news" is mindless propaganda for the bourgeois establishment, the main difference being one of tone and style. Fox News specializes in talking about how bad the Democrats are, while MSNBC specializes in talking about how wretched the Republicans are.

I'm really sorry to hear about your mum and I hope you are doing okay. Insofar as your dad is concerned, I would try and avoid, for the moment, if you can, too many arguments about politics. I would have thought, with your mum dying suddenly, you are all going to be hurting and this will come out in many different ways. For your dad, this might be in the form of anger and antagonism, some of which is heading your way. If he is as blindly right-wing as you say, he may never come round to your way of thinking and so it might be better to try and hold onto what bits of your relationship are good and avoid confrontations on the bad bits.
I really do hope you don't mind me giving you this advice and you can, of course, reject it totally. I'm not you, after all, and can't possibly know all the facts of your relationship.
Good on you, though, for developing a socialist view of the world in an environment that is utterly hostile to people who hold those views.
Good luck and good health mate.

Hello comrade TriPac Dude,
I agree with comrade TallGuy. Ask yourself why you are in this debate with your dad. At this point, you won't change him. But it will make it harder for him to deal with the loss of your mum.
Almost 3 years ago, I lost my wife of about 30 years, and she was the love of my life. So I sympathize with both you and your dad. Tell your dad that I extend my deepest sympathy and condolences to the both of you.
In a couple of years, you will be glad you didn't let your grief direct a lot of rage at your dad at this time. Arguing with him will do zero to bring on the revolution.
Regards,

By the way, just tell your dad that if a socialist party rises to the White House, the 315 million americans will have free medical care. Eye care services, endocrinologist care for diabetes, and heart diseases and dental care will cost zero dollars in a USA that would be turned into a sort of Disney World paradise. Gasoline would probably go down to 1 dollar per gallon. New Honda Accords, factory brand new of the year 2014 would be priced at 10,000 dollars instead of 25,000 dollars (Because all car makers would be owned by US government, and corporations and providers would sell their goods and services at almost their cost prices. Even Disney World would be a lot cheaper, theme parks would be a lot cheaper, movie theaters would be priced at around 2 dollars per entrances. A Big Mac hamburger at any Mcdonalds would probably cost 1 dollar or 75 cents. Because the US dollar would be a powerful dollar backed by real wealth, by gold, silver and by industries, not by speculation. And the whole USA would be like a sort of Disney World, Las Vegas paradise of music concerts, movie theaters and parties. And if he mentions USSR, tell him that the poor people of USSR were a lot better than the poor people of USA. Because the poor people of USSR had free medicare and apartments at about 20 dollars per month, with cable-tv, phone and electricity included.
Vacation cruise corporations like Carnival and Royal Caribbean would be owned by the US government. And vacation cruise packages would be socialized to the masses, they would be available at very low affordable popular prices. What's the matter with your dad, doesn't he love Disney World, vacation cruises, airline traveling, movie theaters? All those good things can only be enjoyed by the middle high-salary class and by the upper classes of USA. Right now it is almost impossible for an average american joe working at a Wal Mart, Mcdonalds or any other low level job to afford a vacation cruise, maybe not even a movie theater on weekends.
Tell him that socialism literally means the USA becoming a Santa Claus, a Disney World, a paradise on earth of pleasures and parties. While USA with Democrats and Republicans right now is a labor gulag without any music concerts, without any parties, without any theme parks without any airline traveling, without any vacation cruises for the majority of americans

Both the Democrats and Republicans are two sides of the same coin. I'd agree with IBleedRed in that Fox News is actually less damaging than CNN, MSNBC, and the like. Most American young people hate Fox. Hardly anyone in America takes Fox seriously to be honest because of how blatantly anti proletariat they are. The real danger is the other media outlets who people genuinely believe are speaking for the workers and such. I even had a professor once who was bashing Fox (which I was like hell yeah, preach) and she went on about how it was owned by corporations working against our interests and I was totally agreeing with her until she tried to tell us that MSNBC was not biased and not as "corporate." CNN and MSNBC are so insidious because they trick people into thinking they are for the common people. All US media acts as a megaphone to speak for the corporate oligarchy that controls the world. Fox News is horrible yes, but they are blatantly racist and blatantly anti-worker and blatantly pro-corporate so people actually realize that they are evil. But the others hide behind a facade, and that is problematic.

I agree with this. Most trans people know CNN is right-wing because of their shitty way of reporting Chelsea Manning's announcement of being trans. (http://www.cnn.com/2013/08/22/us/bradley-manning/)
I also concur with the general consensus that MSNBC and the like can be worse because of the insidious way they limit the imagination of self-proclaimed leftists.

Tripac: The problem with christianity in USA, is that the great majority of christian churches of the USA get a paycheck from corporations and/or the government, and because of that paycheck, that money, those resources, the church leaders are ideologically enslaved to follow the US Imperialist ideology. And because US Imperialism has been invading Middle East muslim nations, christian churches in USA are not only like social clubs, but also recruiting institutions to recruit young americans to join the US military and to ideologically mold most of their church members into voting for capitalist imperialist pro-war politicians. This is not my own conspiracy about churches preaching capitalism, free markets, wars, imperialism and used as a propaganda tool of US Imperialist capitalist ruling class, but this is just the way I see it. In fact one of the major causes of why Bush won elections in 2000 and 2004 had to do with most christian churches of USA which are ultra-right wingers in their majority.
And from a theologist perfectionist judgement of most christian churches of USA. Most of them are not authentic christianity, most of them are really social clubs where people hang out on sundays and on weekdays. But most christians of USA are very cold and take christianity like a tradition and they don't take it seriously. That's why many christians in USA hate muslims, because most christians in America follow what their church leaders say, not what their bibles say. The same is true with communism and socialism. Many people in this world follow what their socialist and communist party leaders say, not what the founders of communist ideology (Marx, Engels, etc) said. So if a person wants to be a real christian, it is better for that person to stay away from all christian churches and follow christianity from their home, sharing wealth with others, loving others and helping others, which is more compatible with real christianity, than supporting capitalism, hating muslims, loving wars and The Republican Party and The Democratic Party
On another note, you know there are even many progressive liberals, progressive news sources that are openly anti-socialism and anti-communism. Even The Russia Today News which is supposed to be leftist, has many people there who are anti-socialism and even anti-state-capitalism.

In the past few years, especially alongside the growth tea party movement, CNN has begun to cater to right-wing populists a lot more by trying to act patriotic and be all outraged over stuff right-wingers usually because they consider this to be impartial. To that end many of their conservative correspondents tend to be pro-teabag pundits to balance out their more liberal pundits. Hell, even before tea party nonsense- remember, this is where Glenn Beck got his national start and where Lou Dobbs routinely complained about immigrants.
What sticks out consistently to me is that they have a pretty bad anti-immigrant position and report on a lot of dumb shit about veterans, botched robberies, car chases, and pets. Sensational and heart-touching as they may be for some folk it ain't news. Fox has been a real cancer for news stations though since it came onto the scene, its high ratings meant every other cable station began to ape its format to get some of that success- CNN has been really going overboard with this and unsurprisingly its ratings continue to go down. I'm not sure what marketing genius there thinks that they're going to win conservative viewers away from Fox even if they ditch any semblance of liberalism in their station- Fox has that niche occupied and all they're doing right now is alienating their soft liberal base.
As such, I'm surprised really that some people would still blast CNN as liberal in this day and age, that looks like more a product of 90s conservative hysteria than anything rooted in reality. MSNBC is probably the more avowedly liberal station as far as Americans are concerned imo, at least in its heyday 2004-2009ish. I'm under the impression that the corporate backers of MSNBC are considering axing much of the current format to return to its roots because the channel has run its course.
Don't let your father bother you so much OP- you should focus on honing your own views so that you remain consistent. I'm sure that he thinks what you're going through is just a phase that you'll grow out of when you get to the "real world", so it's more important imo to make sure that doesn't happen. Don't burn bridges unnecessarily with him though.

Tripac: This whole world is corrupt, not only church organizations, and news stations like FOX and CNN. But even socialist parties and communist parties of the whole world are not honests. Because the ruling party of China is a "Communist Party", which is supposed to install a dictatorship of the proletariat. And China doesn't have a dictatorship of the proletariat and it is not a nation in transition toward a dictatorship of the proletariat. And France is another example of deception in socialist parties. The ruling party of France is a *socialist party*, and because of that France is supposed to be a nation in transition toward a dictatorship of the proletariat, but that party so far has been applying a neoliberal economic model
.

I came across a damn good piece on a blog regarding the racism between liberal democrats and republicans:
Many white liberals remain oblivious to the depth and breadth of anti-racist work, opting to hide behind the delusion that anyone who votes for Democrats and doesn't have a pointy hood in the closet is "a good guy" in the movement toward greater social justice. Some might be surprised to learn that when people of color talk about racism amongst ourselves, white liberals often receive a far harsher skewering than white conservatives or overt racists. Many of my POC friends would actually prefer to hang out with an Archie Bunker-type who spits flagrantly offensive opinions, rather than a colorblind liberal whose insidious paternalism, dehumanizing tokenism, and cognitive indoctrination ooze out between superficially progressive words. At least the former gives you something to work with, something above-board to engage and argue against; the latter tacitly insists on imposing and maintaining an illusion of non-racist moral purity which provides little to no room for genuine self-examination or racial dialogue.
Countless blogospheric discussions on racism amply demonstrate the manner in which many white liberals start acting victimized and angry if anyone attempts to burst their racism-free bubble, oftentimes inexplicably bringing up non-white friends, lovers, adopted children, relatives, ancestors; dismissing, belittling, or obtusely misreading substantive historically-informed analysis of white supremacy as either "divisive rhetoric" or "flaming"; downplaying racism as an interpersonal social stigma and bad PR, rather than an overarching system of power under which we all live and which has socialized us all; and threatening to walk away from discussion if persons of color do not conform to a narrow white-centered comfort zone. Such people aren't necessarily racists in the hate-crime sense of the word, but they are usually acting out social dynamics created by racism and replicating the racist social relationships they were conditioned since birth to replicate.
There’s no static end-condition at which an anti-racist can arrive and definitively declare, “Hallelujah! I am Not A Racist Anymore!” Rather, it’s a lifelong process of historical education, vigilant self-interrogation, personal growth, and socio-political agitation. Racism fractures our world and our own intactness; anti-racism seeks to proactively treat these bleeding wounds and restore the integrity of our humanity.
