How dare he!

It says he has autism and that is just only going to get people with autism who live in America even more abuse.

Asperger's doesn't make people threaten the lives of others for political reasons. Shame on his attorney for using it as an excuse.

Isn't this guy just a victim of the bourgeois state? He's just threatening violence against liberals and social democrats!

Well, technically it is an attorney's job to use and abuse any and all possible excuses to get their client off.

A lot of Americans believe that though.

His behaviour is inexcusable by any standard (do you think issuing death threats would be acceptable in a communist society?), and the fact that you don't agree with the politics of the victims should be completely irrelevant. This isn't a principled stand by a political actor, but is rather a weaselly attempt by a cowardly blowhard to intimidate someone else into silence.

That you would consider defending such actions for even a moment, I find rather worrying in its implications.

Does that job include misrepresenting the facts about Asperger's? Isn't that potentially perjury? In addition to what Danielle noted about autism not making people threaten the lives of others for political reasons, there is no medication specifically for Asperger's in particular or autism in general that I am aware of, so it seems likely to be for something else.

The "defence" stinks to high heaven of someone being caught acting the fuckwit and then making the most pathetic excuses for such behaviour.

I was in no way being serious. I was mocking the usual disregard from those on this forum for violence against members of the state as long as it comes from someone with vaguely leftist pretensions. I just find it amusing that if someone calls themselves an "anarchist" or a "marxist-leninist", even if their understanding of revolutionary theory is totally bunk and their tactics will do nothing at all to further any kind of progressive, radical or revolutionary cause, suddenly people on the forum will flock to their support. Of course, this guy is more obviously not a revolutionary, hence my "argument".

They're given a lot of latitude to interpret reality very liberally. Unlike witnesses, they're not under oath to represent the truth factually to the best of their knowledge, although they often have other fairly stringent regulations. They are however required to represent their client to the best of their ability, and if this lawyer wasn't making that argument, it's possible that he'd just be fired and another lawyer would make the same argument.

Usually either the attorney for the defense or the prosecution has to be woefully dishonest to represent their client. After all, one side is usually wrong.

Obviously the argument is bunk and it plays on people's general ignorance of those with Asperger's or autism. It's not really out of line with the kinds of arguments lawyers in criminal trials often make. Perhaps that is one of the many flaws of the bourgeois justice system.
