I'm a learning Marxist from Virginia, seventeen years old within a few days. Just looking to sponge up all the information I can.

Nice to meet you all!

Welcome :)

If you have political questions, you can ask them in the Learning forum. That's why it's there after all!

If you have questions about your account, don't hesitate to send me a PM or ask here.

Wow. So Marxist. Much young. Very interested.
Seriously: are there any particular political ideas you have? "Marxist" by itself is not extremely clear :)

I know the avatar is a bit silly, but it was the only picture in my folder at the time XD
As for specification, you're right. "Marxist" is very vague, I guess I am trying to stay open minded as I continue reading so I can make a properly informed opinion.

For of my generic viewpoints. I believe that Capitalism has failed and cannot provide for human needs, and must because of this be replaced. I believe in the abolishment (Why is this word given a spelling error message?) of private property in the bourgeois sense. I believe the implementation of the public ownership of the means of production will be more beneficial to the majority of humanity than the private ownership of the means of production. I believe that social inequality cannot be solved in a system which forces people against each other in the hope of material gain, where discrimination is profitable. I suppose i'm optimistic as well, because I believe that humanity can and will do better than what we do now. That greed and hatred shouldn't simply be chalked up to "Human nature" And that things like that can be cut out of our society in large with hard work. "The damage can be repaired" I suppose would be a good motto for me.

wow such greeting, much marxism. My friend runs the Dogebook tumblr. I'm sure he'd love this thread.

Anyway, welcome! Be sure to read up as much as possible, check out the Marxists Internet Archive, check out the different tendencies, and the groups! Groups are amazing on RevLeft.

Hi Comrade,

Your avatar is okay as far as I'm concerned. But what's really important is what you wrote.

I agree with what you wrote about capitalism and socialism. I'm more than 4 times older than you but have held similar views since I was your age and before. So it thrills me to see that you and other young people are asking the right questions and heading in the right direction.

Don't be afraid to ask questions. Only accept what makes sense to you after evaluating the situation, the evidence, and your own sense of logic. Don't just accept something just because someone important tells it to you. And don't be afraid to change your views in the face of new evidence. None of us has all the answers. For me, Marx makes the most sense, and socialism is necessary if the human race is to survive.

If you were my son or daughter, I'd be really proud of you.

Regards,

Greetings, fellow Southerner.

A little piece of advice: Don't let anyone tell you that you have to be a particular tendency right away....or have a tendency at all, for that matter. Marx believed that people should be allowed to think for themselves, and that no one should take his work like it was holy writ.

Also, don't believe anyone that says you have to live like some sort of monk. Life is for living, as they say, and Marx was all about living (and drinking. Lots and lots of drinking).

A great quote that I like to live by:

"I shall try to correct errors when shown to be errors; and I shall adopt new views so fast as they shall appear to be true views." - Abraham Lincoln
