A former Colorado charter school principal is claiming she was terminated from her job after attempting to halt a practice that embarrassed students.

Noelle Roni was the principal of Peak to Peak Elementary School for more than eight years before being abruptly fired last November. Roni says that higher-ups at the school became angry with her when she demanded that cafeteria workers stop stamping the hands of children who did not have enough money in their account to pay for lunch, according to CBS Denver.

Although the charter school is allowed to set its own policies, other schools in the Denver area notify parents when students do not have money for lunch, rather than stamping their hands, according to Colorado outlet the Daily Camera. Roni reportedly was told that some children were too embarrassed to go through the lunch line because of the practice.

"The kids are humiliated. They’re branded. It’s disrespectful. Where’s the human compassion? And these are little children," Roni said to CBS Denver.

I thought this was pretty important because it highlights the psychological damage that capitalism inflicts on families and school children. Even when you're enrolled in the free or reduced lunch program, some schools like to go out of their way to make the process as degrading as possible. Make no mistake: this sort of degradation benefits the upper crust by demoralizing poor children who grow up to have problems with insecurity and low self-esteem. Now, all of these problems don't stem solely from the hand-stamping...but it's still a shitty practice that demands attention.

Hmm, I wouldn't blame capitalism for this.

It's absolutely terrible, but this kind of shit only comes from 3rd world nations and the USA, I doubt a Nordic country would allow something like this to happen, and they are still capitalists.

But feel free to correct me.

The root cause has to be capitalism. Even if we say that the Scandinavian countries have a different set of values, those values are informed by the economic system (and its class divisions). The difference is that in most of Europe, labor is more organized and this type of shit might not be tolerated. Americans are less militant.

We'll always find a way to somehow indirectly blame any economic-related issue on capitalism... I don't think capitalism is DIRECTLY causing this issue, but as a result of capitalism's existence, the fact the children don't have the necessary monetary funds are suffering this type of discrimination.

There is far more than enough resources for a good standard of every single human being on Earth, the problem is capitalism, imperialism, and corporations.

Cooperation > Competition and Corporations

This shows how egotistic Americans really fucking are and from my experiences, Americans like to talk about the contestants on American Idol, the newest Vine twerking, the hottest music video on YouTube, results of sports, what they got in a video game, etc instead of talking about issues like this.

Funny, I was going to post this today too. Nice one Red!

This is punishing kids for their parents' financial status and it's f*cked up. This kind of treatment shows that our society's treatment of children is atrocious. This is but one component of a bigger issue: ageism.

Actually I think you can directly blame capitalism here. It's a charter school. It's literally a school based on a capitalist theory of education. The side benefit is that you get to fire teachers when they interfere with capital, as in this instance.
