Once again, a transwoman of color defends herself and she's the one facing charges.

It's a joke

These people, cops, D.A's and the like don't have it in their DNA to think or act otherwise. If justice is supposed to be blind then this ilk seems to be hell bent on not only removing the blinders but also taking away any veneer of impartiality by relying on their outdated sense of morals and cosmology. We are barely human to these people, just a roadblock on their way to becoming mayor or some such other nonsense.

Hands are tied? What a clever way of rationalizing transphobic injustice.

Given the amount of bullying and abuse that is the reality of transgender women's lives and the horrifying statistics about the rates of suicide, mental health problems and self harm that tend to go hand in hand with that, it should seem absurd to punish the teenage girl standing up for herself rather than the bullies that pushed her to do it. Not only is this a(nother) case of victim blaming, but presumably if she is charged it will harm her chances of getting work, etc. in the future, which will cause her further problems along the line. The D.A.'s hands are not tied, that's a piss poor excuse.

I wish the D.A.'s hands were literally tied so we can find a less transphobic one while he struggles to get to work.

it's wrong for a transgender girl to defend herself from bullies at school - but it's ok to defend your property with lethal force (at least in some places)...
