On the arrest of the Colombian militant Francisco Javier Toloza

The KKE condemns the new provocation of the Colombian government, which on the 4th of January arrested the academic Francisco Xavier Toloza, cadre and responsible for international relations of the socio-political movement Marcha Patriotica.
His arrest clearly shows the intentions of the Colombian government to continue the policy of criminalizing and persecuting every voice that resists and struggles from the standpoint of the peoples interests.
It is operating in the same framework as the bourgeois political forces of the country have done for many years with the blessings of the USA and the EU: that of state repression, the violation of basic democratic rights and the physical liquidation of militants of the popular movement with as a result that the people of Colombia can count thousands murdered, imprisoned and displaced.
It highlights the hypocrisy of the Colombian government which on the one hand allegedly claims it promises safeguards for political participation and on the other hand carries out arrests and instigates the murder of militants of the popular movement.
The KKE expresses its full solidarity with Francisco Javier Toloza, the Marcha Patriotica, the thousands of political prisoners and persecuted militants.
It demands his immediate release, as well as the release of all the political prisoners and the provision of guarantees for the free and unimpeded political and trade union activity of the popular forces in the country.
